I am sure that this has been posted before, but I couldn't find it in a search.

I am looking to do some volunteering this semester, but I do not know what to do. I worked in assisted living homes and I've tutored inner city children. I want to do something different, but I am not sure what to do. I was thinking about doing something with developmentally disabled people or emotionally/mentally impaired people (autism, etc..). Basically I am asking what other people do as volunteer activities or even some information on volunteer opportunities in the philadelphia area.

This year I'm volunteering at a Suicide Prevention Hotline on the phones, which should be interesting and with Hospice.

the url the previous poster WROTE was good, but the link itself is broken (so just copy the text part).

I found volunteering for a Domestic Violence hotline a good experience. there are other counseling hotlines. you should be able to find something good in a big city like philadelphia.

For what you described, you may want to look to NAMI - National alliance (or association?) for mentally ill.

Also, thouroughly search your college's and nearby medical schools website for volunteer opportunities.

anyway.. I'm tired of answering this question on SDN (nothing wrong with you're asking, it's a good question)... soo..

I was thinking about doing that because I thought it would be a good compliment to my experience with the medical examiner.
