I think it's good for folks to know what they are up against during this interview season when it comes to your lunch. Afterall, you paid for it.
My experience is limited to 3 schools :

UMDNJ: A $7 voucher is given to each student which you then take to the cafeteria for food. However, by the time we finished with our interview and tour, the best goodies were almost gone in the cafe 😡. I still managed to fix a plate of salad, banana, muffin, soda and a hot side.

Touro-NY: Continental breakfast of orange juices, coffee, and bagel.Lunch was served after the interview around 12ish : Different sliced sandwich meats like turkey, salami etc and sliced cheese were on a large tray. Bread tops ,potato salad and lettuce on another. Sodas and hot coffee also served. Each person get to pick their choice of food.

NYCOM: Pre-packed turkey and tuna sandwiches. Served with water before your interview.

My vote goes to UMDNJ. Anything with a hot plate gets my vote.👍

Western gives you a pre packed lunch with a sandwhich and a bag of chips, and i think a drink. They also give you a voucher for a drink at the bookstore which you can use once throughout the day. The lunch left me wanting......it wasnt very filling at all.

Now Des Moines on the other hand is AWESOME. They give you a lunch ticket, which as far as i can tell, has no price limit. We just went into the cafeteria and got whatever we wanted. I had a veggie burger, a sandwhich, a fruit cup, a drink and i dont even remember what else. Its probably the sweetest deal you are gonna see on interview day.

Same for CCOM. People stocked up for the road! 👍👍

VCOM: Tons of choices (make sure you look at the back of the paper). I got a caesar salad. It was really good and all the vegetables were fresh, crisp, and the color they were supposed to be. Others got sandwiches and some people got melts. You get water throughout the day and they have fruit snacks in the middle of the table.

LECOM: You again get to choose but its a limited selection. That said, I got a salad. I was content with it but I wish I could have had romaine lettuce. There was a hot lunch option: roast beef and mashed potatoes. The day you interview will reflect what your lunch choices are. I believe Friday is pizza day while other days have specific specials. The interview room had water and coffee available along with fruit snacks.

PCOM: I did not have lunch, but did have breakfast. The breakfast is on the school and you can get whatever you want. I got a cup of oatmeal (bleh) and OJ. Others got tastier looking things but I feel awkward eating in front of people so I kept it to a minimum.

I agree about Des Moines; it's a good deal. I'm also next to positive there was no price limit. However, I don't know about the rest of you, but I have a hard time eating before an interview. So I only ate about half the salad I picked up. For the rest of you that can pack it away, DMU is the place for you! 😀

I'd have to vote for TCOM. They took us out to a nice local Italian restaurant and we preordered the food when the day started, so when we got there, it was ready to go 🙂

TCOM does this right. They load you up on a mini-bus and drive you five minutes to an actual restaurant in the botanical gardens, with cloth tablecloths, menus, wait staff, etc. The food was pretty good and beat the heck out of boxed lunches and buffet mexican food.

I interviewed at UMDNJ and Touro-ny. LECOM-B and PA were wraps for lunch, breakfast at LECOM B was best I thought (couple snacks coffee, water, oj).

AZCOM was a decent breakfast couple snacks, donut holes, water and coffee. Lunch was cafeteria, they give u $9, was pretty good, althoguh all they had was ketchup packets which was kinda annoying.

ATSU in AZ, gets my vote for the best lunch. They had brought in good sandwiches and had cookies and chips etc. water soda. I'd say the most decadent. Don't remember wut breakfast was.

Touro-CA : Average sandwich and chip combo.

Lecom-B: Pretty good sandwiches, a bunch of other stuff. Not bad.

NSU: Pretty nice spread of sandwiches from portobello mushroom to turkey and roastbeef. Also had various salads and monstrous cookies.

AZCOM: Lunch ticket for like 9 bucks or something ridiculous. I got chicken fingers, a drink, some fries, and then maxed out with string cheese and a few other random things. It was a lot of food.

KCOM: Average turkey sandwich...nothing special.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Sorry, but this is one area where the MD schools dominated.

FSU had boston market. Ham, chicken, macaroni and cheese, caesar salad, drinks, corn bread, and a bunch of other stuff.

FIU: A meal voucher for all you can eat in their cafeteria, which was all pretty good stuff. Fried plantains, pasta, salads, ice cream, sandwiches, etc. Then for breakfast they had a bunch of baked goods, coffee, water and juice.

at my kcumb interview day, the tour ran long so i didn't have time to eat my food before the interview
i took a salmon burger, chips and choc milk for the road
woofed down my chips and choc milk on my way to the interview room then ate my salmon burger after the interview
but it was a damn good salmon burger, i'll tell you what

des moines had a much nicer cafeteria, had the veggie burger there with some good soup, chips and vita water, i vote des moines out of those 2

VCOM was my favorite - I had an awesome salad. Plus, they kept giving us food all day - cookies, granola bars, etc.

WVSOM was really good, too. They bring you to a historic inn and you get to pick from several options.

LMU-DCOM was okay - unlimited food in the cafeteria. I preferred the other two because I didn't have to fight my way through undergrads in the cafeteria. 😛

What's TCOM application fee? Their restaurant lunch giveaway sounds expensive if they are going to do it for all the students that interviewed with them. We forked $200 at Touro-NY and no one drove us around to eat.

Yea, it was def. a weird mix at FIU, but I liked it. I was also really really hungry by that time and if you met me you'd understand how much food I can eat. Now that I'm lifting again, I probably eat 6 times a day, and I'm often grazing in-between.

There's actually no secondary fee. You have to fill out TMDSAS but I think that might be changing in the future. I could be wrong here.

So, yeah, pretty sweet deal.

I'm jealous that any of you got a good lunch. My first interview at RVU was pathetic.

RVU: Ordered 3 pizzas from Papa Johns for 12 ppl (10 guys). Basically everyone got like a slice of pizza which wasn't bad if you are me, but I'm positive some of those poor guys left starving. Not to mention some ppl actually like to eat healthier than pizza.

KCOM: Decent brown bag lunch but nothing spectacular.

LECOM-B: My PBL group was a little late finishing so by the time I got down there the only thing left was egg salad a tuna salad - Yucko!

It kind of sounds lame, but I was extremely disappointed by this aspect of the interviews. It's not like you are given an hour to go grab yourself a lunch (which would have been a better choice imo). Instead, you are pretty much at the mercy of the admissions staff and whatever they choose(or in the case of RVU whatever is cheapest...kinda makes you wonder where the $40k tuition/yr goes).

I wish they would just schedule interviews from 8am - 12noon and be done with it already.

have to back Flu up on this one. TCOM's was by far the best ive been a part of or read about here. The off campus location also gave us a great opportunity to talk to the student ambassadors in a non-school setting. I dont know exactly how to explain it, but I felt less pressure being away from the school, all of the applicants relaxed and we all talked over a great lunch (as if there was any pressure there to begin with).

At Touro-NY, they gave us crackers with egg salad, tuna salad, or some other indeterminate salad (we concluded it was probably fish). Ick. 👎 For those of us who do not eat mayonnaise, it was a big disappointment. Good thing it ended shortly thereafter so I could go get real food!

wow I am glad I didnt go to some of the schools you guys are talking about. Every school I have interviewed at (DMU, AZCOM, CCOM) gave us either a voucher or free run of the cafeteria, which was awesome. DMU was the best, they had the most options, cooked to order, salad bar, sandwich station, etc. Who on earth would serve crackers and egg salad? EW 😕

I am torn between DMU and CCOM here. Western wins worst lunch ever.

I gave my vote to CCOM because the day I was there they had build your own pizza day. Awesome! I had a build your own taco salad at DMU, but it just wasn't as exciting as the pizza 😉

I also appreciated that both schools provided beverages and snack bars in the morning.

I interviewed at TouroNY, WVSOM, AZCOM and KCOM.

KCOM>TouroNY=WVSOM>AZCOM for me.

I did like the restaurant we went to for WVSOM but I didn't get to enjoy it as much because I was still nervous for my interview in the afternoon. Touro had a nice layout of meat and pasta salad. They also offered coffee throughout the day which for some sad reason was a huge plus for me. Azcom was cafeteria food, there was an ok selection but not top notch. Kcom had a really good sandwich followed by an amazing cookie. I killed the sandwich and in retrospec probably should have eaten a little slower. It was also nice that they made accomodations for vegetarians....I am NOT one! Oh I forgot Touro had some darn good bread to make the sandwich with......

If you count student interaction as a part of lunch then KCOM/WVSOM >> Touro/AZCOM. KCOM/WVSOM both had students come and eat lunch, where I asked about a million questions. I found both students to be very helpful at both places.

vcom ordered out for us. the menu was loaded with all sorts of things. salads, wraps, sandwiches, burgers. it was SWEET.

though eating out at a restaurant sounds like money too. didn't interview at many places, but enough to know that vcom put in a little bit more effort into our lunches than they should have 🙂

Touro NV drove all the interviewees to a restaurant and let us order anything we wanted. I got the 10-13 dollar steak.

At OSU-COM last year they had an italian restaurant cater food for us. I think they switch between two different restaurants for the food.

Oh my. We didn't get that in our interview (thank god).

It definitely felt more relaxed, but some admissions people ate with us so we weren't completely free to ask whatever 😉

Still, it was a pretty good lunch. It easily topped the other ones I had (AZCOM, Touro-NV), although the previous two weren't too bad either.

What?! We got like boxed deli lunches. It was very important that they were Kosher too, since they were spending school funds.

😕

Yeah, I wasn't very happy about it. Mostly because I had eaten breakfast at 7am and by noon I was starving. And I can't really eat mayo. I felt it would be rude to bust out the granola bars I had in my bag so I just started counting down until we were set free.

I guess it depends on who took you guys out (if you got taken out to lunch at all). Ours were paid in cash by the person taking us (poor guy forked over 100 bucks). I can see why it doesn't happen very often.

NSU was showing some love to vegetarians with some pretty large portobello mushroom sandwiches

yes and they were very very nice! I have to say the lunch was the best part of my interview (even though the whole thing wasn't that bad) we got to eat with some students and talk to them about NSU - how they felt.

on the otherhand my vote for worst is AZCOM...i'm just not a fan of being given a voucher and being able to pick whatever i want out of cafeteria food (cheese fries and macaroni) 👎

I'm sure he got reimbursed. The director of Admissions for Touro-NV told us he had to pay for an interview group at a restaurant since there was a mix up for the lunches that day. Of course, this restaurant had to be Kosher too since he got reimbursed. It was strange that he felt needed to continually point that out too 😕

CCOM just had so many effing choices of what to eat at their cafeteria. Most of it was pretty appetizing too! A definite plus 👍

interviewed at ccom yesterday (friday), unimpressed with their cafeteria
i guess the food was ok, but the wait to get the food was ridiculous (15 mins??!!)
