well I'm normal waitlist at Einstein, which has a HPWL, so yeah... the other schools I know nothing about. Just really not looking forward to waiting another month
 
I've been waitlisted at two schools and have to admit I'm pretty bummed. I'm already dreading reapplying. My MCAT score is awful, and last night I even had a dream (nightmare) that I was taking the MCAT again 👎

If I don't get in though, I'm just going to take it as another chance I have to get into my top school! Good luck to everyone waiting! The process is much worse than I expected.

the process is definitely way worse than i expected. im certainly feeling the waitlist woes today
 
Anyone have waitlist info on University of SC or University of SC-Greenville?

Varies year to year, but historically a good chunk of superstar applicants turn down UCSF for other top 10s that offer more financial aid/lower cost of living. Rent in San Francisco seems to be getting more out of control each year so my guess/hope is that this trend will continue.
 
Wait listed at mayo and I know others have received a letter from the dean. In prior years, recipients of the dean letter usually get accepted.

Question - it's my top choice, but now I'm wondering if I should still send the LOI given that I'm probably not high on their list. Considering if I should second it to my second choice school, which is also awesome and in my hometown.

P.S. Extremely sick of playing these games...

If you send letters of interest, you can send them to both.
 
It looks like one of the schools Im wait listed at is starting to pull people off already and some have declined their offer of admission. I'm hoping that I don't have to wait too much longer but I'll be grateful if given an acceptance at any time.
 
Another post-interview rejection (my 2nd), so I'm down to 5 chances, max, now. I've sent LOIs to 3 schools and filled out 2 essays when claiming waitlist spots. You think I should send an LOI to the last 2 schools? One just hasn't gotten to me post-interview yet (it was quite late and they are quite slow overall) and I have nothing to add, and the other I JUST wrote a massive essay to get on their waitlist (but it was about them, not me). Thoughts?

Uggggh, this process is loco.

I've been out a couple years as well and hopefully we can avoid reapplying. At least we are on WL and many successful students have been admitted off them.
 
Just got my 3rd WL yesterday... I guess 3 chances is still good but now I gotta start thinking about a reapplying. May needs to get here soon
 
Do LoIs actually help in terms of getting off the waitlist? Is there any possible downside to writing them?

I agree that it probably can't hurt, but just make sure you look into whether or not your school is receptive of LOIs. Some schools specifically say that they don't want any LOIs or update letter, so if you send one, it could obviously hurt.

After reading through last year's threads, it seems like waitlist movement was slower than usual. Does anyone get this impression as well? As a result, some say med schools are trying to "fix" this and have more waitlist movement this year. What does that mean? Why would a school feel the need to have more waitlist movement? Of course, this could all vary by school. But I'm wondering if there happens to be a national trend.

The earliest that any movement can happen is May 2nd as May 1 falls on a Sunday.

No idea how accurate this is, but I heard that last year a lot of people went ahead and applied so they wouldn't have to take the new MCAT and that that somehow lead to a massive increase in the number of polo ants overall. But again, not sure how true that is

Yeah, that's a tough call. It seems like applications increase consistently every year so I don't know if the new MCAT had a true impact

All of my rejection letters mentioned the incredibly high number of applicants this cycle compared to others, so I think we can expect things to continue to go very slowly for us.

I don't see how having more waitlist movement this year would in any way fix the "problem" from last year...
 
Currently writing a LOI to my top choice school. Who would have guessed these would be so hard to write and feel good about. It's literally the final effort...

Application numbers increase, but the number they interview stays roughly the same from what I can see.

Waitlist movement will likely be slower/more cautious with the arrival of new mcat scores. < speculation
 
Got 5th waitlist yesterday, interviewed at 5 schools. Batting 1.000. 5 WL has to be a new record or something right?

Ok so just to be absolutely sure, May 2nd (Monday) is the first day when the waitlists should have a lot of movement right? But why does my memory tell me it was late May in previous years? Am I thinking of a different date or did the same date got moved up a couple of weeks this year?

May 2nd will see a waitlist movement spike due to traffic day having past for sure. You may be thinking of another spike that occurs when people start having to face deposits? I think I read about that somewhere but not entirely sure

May 2nd is the day when those holding multiple acceptances reduce to one. It is at this point that schools will know if they can predict open seats and begin waitlist consideration. The school can already roughly predict this based on where their accepted are holding, but many surprises do occur.

This is not a significant consideration at MD schools where deposits are generally refundable or credited toward tuition.

I still think that despite how many more people apply today, if you are qualified there will be a spot for you. It might be harder for admissions offices to find the right people to interview and accept though.

Define qualified, because with the generally accepted usage of the word, your statement doesn't really mesh with reality very well.

Replace "will" with "may" for a more accurate statement. There are way more qualified applicants than spots available.
