Same. I emailed the deans at my WL school and asked them to please consider me one last time at the next meeting so I move across the country in peace lol
Planning on doing this next week if I don't hear anything.....the peace of mind will be a welcome change, whatever response I get.

hi waitlist friends, I hope that whether you are still waiting for the results of this cycle to pan out, whether you have decided to start a reapp, or somewhere in between, that you are able to take a bit of time this holiday weekend to let yourself relax (especially since there won't be any waitlist updates anyways lol).

Texas WL offers 5/25 from Texas Tech Lubbock and Long School of Medicine (San Antonio)
Are you able to tell if UTRGV has had an OOS WL movement to this point? Thanks!

Hi friends. I applied last cycle and am currently waitlisted at three IS schools... and despite everything, I still have no understanding of if I have even a remote chance of being accepted :hungover: I recently completed an SMP and was really hoping to get an acceptance offer there due to my involvement and GPA. Since that didn't pan out, I had a quick question that's definitely best somewhere else, but it's the long weekend and maybe you all could use a poor soul to help here. I also spent half an hour reading through this thread and feel connected to you guys on a personal level lol.

I applied last year. I finished the SMP this year (3.47 undergrad, 4.0 grad, 509 MCAT). I know people warn against reapplying too soon, but I've spent the past year taking first-year medical school curriculum and excelling. I feel as though I am prepared to matriculate (this year, pls, but next year too). Can I reapply with the completed degree, a few new leadership/extracurricular activities under my belt, updated LORs... and be "judged differently", in a positive way, by medical schools? When do I give up on the WLs and press the button to reapply (I'd prepare while I wait, nonetheless)?

(sorry for the long post, long sentences, rambling, etc... future thank you's to anyone who can offer advice <3)

I think the question many of us are going to ask if why in gods name did you do an SMP, but apply to medical school BEFORE having any of those grades to show for it? I would argue that this last cycle was a bit of a waste.

PMed you!

For the SMP, it is what most students are advised to do so that you can matriculate after graduation, especially into the medical school that hosts the SMP. We individually send grade updates throughout the year to where we apply/interview, and the administration also communicates actively with the schools and sends update letters for us if necessary.

I don't know if that makes sense to most people. I thought it did... and I thought I had a good chance.

Are you currently on WL at the medical school hosting the SMP? Are they able to give you any feedback?

I have to wait until the program administrator reaches out to the AdCOM/etc. before how to proceed, but I'm planning on getting feedback on my application from that school and from schools I've gotten rejected from this coming week.

I guess I could just wait and be frickin' patient for a sec and get that feedback before making any moves. I just wanted to know in the meantime if I had a chance haha

I think you could have a chance, but it's safer to wait and make sure your application is as strong as possible before doing this again - you dont want to go for round 3.

just curious, historically how many students are accepted/linked from your smp into the associated med school? a 4.0 in med school level coursework is nothing to scoff at..

wishing you the best!!

No more multiple acceptance report, so its hard for schools to judge yield.

Schools can now offer spots off the waitlist to students who have ALREADY MATRICULATED at another school. So i.e. if I was to matriculate at Case Western, which starts in July, but then Harvard said they wanted me to join their class starting August 1, I could leave Case with an empty space that they are unable to fill since classes have already started. This has not been allowed previously.
So schools can't see anything at all about your acceptances? Hypothetical situation, but what if someone were to turn down an acceptance and reapply the following year. Would schools no longer be able to see this information?

If you previously applied to a school, they would know. I'm not sure about other schools.

They take ~~54% of the students applying from the SMP.

wow :\ tbh i'm a little peeved on your behalf that you were not offered a seat with your stats in their program... that really defies all logic. Not if but when you are accepted, you're going to be an absolutely killer medical student.

Haha I'm a little peeved too. But wow, that's really sweet of you to say... thank you :shy: fingers crossed for everyone!!!

All the people who were invited from WL have been IS (I can only see those who post on SDN). :sorry:

Currently hiking half dome in Yosemite and yes there’s service up here! No acceptances but at least I’m outside. Keep up hoping people we’ll get out alive one way or another.

accepted a couple minutes ago. My only other option was close-to-not-feasible at all so I am very very very thankful. Thank you everyone in this thread for helping me stay hopeful. Hope was so hard in thse last 10+ months

Congrats!!

Currently waitlisted at a school that just finished conducting interviews on May 18th. The wait has been killing me! They haven't gotten the waitlist. Hopefully I get good news soon. Fingers crossed!

Accepted MD today. I'm just going to copy the wise words of Rei02sDinnerParty:

Everything I did to try to compensate for my academic flaws, miserable exhausting years of research, scribing, and volunteering, my self worth wrapped up in a blanket of insecurity because of a **** GPA... it all became worth it in the blink of an eye.

i don't think i can offer anything motivational or wise to those still waiting. in fact, i resented posts like this, i wanted those people to go away and be happy in the med students forum. perhaps the only thing of value I can offer you is that if someone saw something in my application, with its mountain of flaws that stare you right in the face, there's a good chance they might see something in yours.

As expected, there is not much happening (at least where I am).
Since Friday, there was an acceptance to UT Houston, only.
When would you expect for movement to pick up again? Or is it pretty much done by this point

From now on, it will be intermittent.

I've read in some of the past threads that there's often more movement at the end of May and mid June. Do you think this is likely? I'm in the top five of a strictly ranked waitlist and it hasn't moved much in the past two weeks. Still hoping =(

Do you know anything of the "second wave" of WL acceptances that people mention? People said early june a lot of schools tend to send a larger quantity of offers. Has this been true in pervious years or have you not noticed any real difference?

I’m in a very similar situation so I’m wondering about this too

I’m in that same position and got more interviews after I finished my SMP. They did however look over my classes thoroughly from what I was told to be sure they were up to par with what the school wants. I hope it helped. PM me if you have any questions

Does this happen to be a upper west coast school? I am in the top three at this point of a strictly ranked waitlist. I feel your pain! I am really hoping there is some more! Historically, if we are speaking of the same school, there has been a few trickles after this point (1-3 people).

In order for any waitlist movement to occur at a particular school, there must be depletion of the surplus acceptances. Once that happens, acceptances (either in packets or droplets) are offered.
Some schools have a high degree of accuracy in calculating the number needed to fill. Others rely heavily on the waitlist.
The only real wave is the one that comes from schools that rely heavily on waitlists. They deplete early and need many seats filled. The same schools initiate what appears to be a second (smaller) wave around two weeks after traffic day (when primary offers off the waitlist are declined).

Is it an a good sign if a school sent out rejection emails but you haven’t gotten one?

Hi everyone. I've been a lurking a lot in this forum and thread for a bit since I am waitlisted in 2 schools currently (1 IS and 1 OOS). I have been preparing for this upcoming cycle, but am unsure if what I have is substantial enough. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if this is me being neurotic or if it really is not substantial. Would anyone be willing to PM? 🙂

Also, would it be advisable to contact the school to see if there is movement, or would this be considered rude?

Welcome to this forum. Its really helped a lot of us keep it together in these tough times. Totally willing to PM!
Some students on school specific threads made calls to ask about movement without giving their names and it seems fine.

4 WL and a pending 5th decision. UT Houston has been my number 1 choice for the past 4 years. Been waiting for almost a year now. Life is hard.

I feel u bro. In the meantime, we can eat eggs benedict and finish it off with some gelato to cope. JK no brunch food for me..gonna need dat $$$ for AMCAS 2019 lmao

Tried to PM you, but could not. I was a second time applicant and got in off of the WL at an MD school. If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

Sent a hail mary letter of intent to my top choice, although they do a ranked waitlist I feel a little better knowing there's really not much else that can be done.
It's the least they can let us do. If we have virtually no control in the process at least let us yell into the silence with no consequences lol.
