In Texas 8 WL invites from Long last week and just 1 from McGovern this weekMy dear waitlisters, I haven't seen a dang thing since yesterday.

Do you have any idea why certain schools wait until June to being WL movement? I assume the benefit is that newly accepted students are less likely to leave and go to another school if its closer to orientation date.
Accepted off the WL at Einstein today!!!!! AHHHHH! I did send a LOI last week. Sending good vibes and cheering on everyone here!
I do not think there is a strategy.Do you have any idea why certain schools wait until June to being WL movement? I assume the benefit is that newly accepted students are less likely to leave and go to another school if its closer to orientation date.
I see no advantage to waiting if there are open seats.

I don't think there is any wizardry going on. It seems to me that schools just did a much better job with protecting their yield this year than they normally do. Perhaps due to the impending changes to the application process next year? Who knows

Then it’s odd to me Emory waits until June for any possible waitlist movements, at least it says so in the paper packet they gave us.

This many of them? I’m curious if that also means most of those people only had a single acceptanceI don't think there is any wizardry going on. It may have something to do with when (and how) their committee chooses to meet.

That makes sense it just seems odd that that would happen at the majority of places during the same exact cycle. But I mean it's "only" week 3, some schools may haven't even had their committees meet or anything nobody knows when they meet!
I imagine from an ADCOM point of view they have no reason to admit someone in May vs June. Assuming most people already know what schools they would choose and that fin aid isnt a major factor, you would say yes (or no) whether they let you in in May or the end of June. So, why not wait until more dust settles. Then an ADCOM can meet 3 times instead of 6 etc... Idk just a thought. In a lot of cases they have no incentive to make fast waitlist offers when most of their class is full and they have a big pool of willing students who will accept whenever. That makes sense it just seems odd that that would happen at the majority of places during the same exact cycle. What to do??? Sign a lease so I can attend the school I’m accepted at that starts mid- July or postpone and wait for my top choice which I’m WLed at?

I have the same problem with "non-rolling" admissions. It is only the delivery of the decision that is delayed.

It may also increase yield if one were to wait until June or something because it's that much closer to orientation and people need to make plans. I do agree it may be rude but if you take an applicant with no acceptances off a WL 2 weeks before classes start they will attend. If you do it earlier maybe they'll get an acceptance somewhere else and leave anyway

I assume you have to pay like first, last, security deposit to sign the lease? If so will you forfeit it if you break it? If you lose "only" a month I would go ahead and do it soon but if you lose a significant amount of money maybe wait a little longer
Has nothing to do with waitlists or apps but Being Mortal By Atul Gawande is fantastic.6/6 WL checking in. been difficult getting by these days. anyone recommend any inspiring books to read for a mood lift?
My cycle ended today. It was a disappointment, but I would be lying if I didn’t say that I grow tremendously from it.
I’m going to work on getting a publication in the next year and work with what I’ve got.
Keep the faith, even when it seems like you shouldnt.

But wait, you could be that one person who comes off the waitlist the day before orientation!
jk
Good luck with your future endeavors. It's relieving to finally be able to move forward.

I can confirm that it is a great book. Also When Breathe Becomes Air is a good one as well as Complications (this one is also by Atul Gawande). If you want a good read outside of medicine, The Road to Character was pretty good.
Had to make this too, but only because spongebob makes everything better

That's so good. I had a meltdown at work today because three different people asked me how the med school situation was going. My reply "Same situation, nothing has changed" Then I couldn't keep it together.

I get asked everyday if I got off any of my waitlists yet lol.
Yes same here! It is literally like a punch in the chest every time. But we will all get through this. You won’t die if you don’t get in and life will continue. We all will find our way even if we have to try again just fail better each time! (If I could actually sound like this in person instead of in text format I may be sitting on acceptances lol)I get asked everyday if I got off any of my waitlists yet lol.

Still not off my 1 WL, but at least I have a new Backstreet Boys song to listen to. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

+1 +1 +1 x 1000000 times at work. I love working in the hospital because it takes my mind off the waitlist, but every. single. shift. every single person asks me if I've gotten off one of my waitlists and every time it's a disgruntled "no..." with a soul-crushing sigh.

Sorry man. What school is this?Received an email yesterday from my waitlist school that they have had little to no waitlist movement and don't anticipate much movement in the future and to start planning our next move.View attachment 234260

Switched departments in my hospital so I can stop answering the same questions.
I put a deposit down on a place where I'm planning on going. This way, if I end up getting off the WL, I am not breaking a lease but have still secured a place for myself for now. They didn't give me a deadline to sign the lease so I'm putting it off until the end of this month. What to do??? We just signed a contract on a house. We could still rent it out for a solid amount, if necessary, but we are not waiting around for my waitlist acceptance. It’s definitely stressful to be waitlisted!

Let the waitlist movement, begin.
Let the waitlist movement, begin.
We demand waitlist movement! Or we all threaten to withdraw. Then they won't have a waitlist at all and they can't fill their seats. That will teach em..

For confidentiality, I won't say the specific schools, but there has been recent movement (yesterday/today). i have had multiple friends moving off waitlists at a wide variety of schools from top to bottom tier.

I can confirm this as well!

Is this the moment we have all been waiting for, or should I still remain skeptical?I can confirm this as well!

I mean in theory it is essentially like the 2-week mark (which is theoretically another wave) if you count the few days from that AAMC meeting pushing stuff back!! So hopefully more stuff is happening now

Man I feel it. I think the thing to keep in mind is that they just mean well and they are just really pulling for you (like we all are on this forum)! I was about to freak out on someone but then realized that it comes from a good place and calmly told them that I was still on the waitlist and staying hopeful!
A new week is upon us.... WE GOT THIS Y'ALL!!!!
Yes! Great vibes are in the air!A new week is upon us.... WE GOT THIS Y'ALL!!!!
Is this a common thing you can negotiate with landlords? That is, a deposit vs signing a lease? I'm in a very similar situation as the user you quoted with the exception that my school starts even earlier, July 2nd.I put a deposit down on a place where I'm planning on going. This way, if I end up getting off the WL, I am not breaking a lease but have still secured a place for myself for now. Timing is everything. Apartments and rentals will usually require 60 day notice from people vacating at the end their lease. Once you're within approximately 60 days of when you want to move you can "hold" an apartment which is coming available by completing the application and paying the deposit/initial fees. If you get off a waitlist, you can withdraw your hold and lose the money paid, but it costs much less money to do that versus breaking a lease. I'm sure not all landlords/management companies allow this, but they really don't lose out because if you withdraw, they will just lease to someone else and make them pay the same deposit and application fees.
I feel like garbage, you guys. I have a gut feeling I’ll be stuck on waitlists forever. Sorry I have nothing beneficial to add to this thread, but I just had to vent a little. Good luck to everyone else still waiting patiently.
