Hello all!

I filled out an app online for a walgreens tech.. and it said at the end that i had to go into a store and fill out a skills assessment?

...what does that entail? if math- what kind? i heard something about interpreting coupons?

...and any advice on getting a job after filling it out?

Thanks all =) 😱

The skills assessment just checks to see that you average intelligence and can pay attention to detail. You will have to perform simple addition and subtraction. Such as, if a customer is charged $3.76 for his items and hands you a $20 bill, then how much change will he/she receive. You will also have to answer questions pertaining to coupons and items that appear in an ad. Very simple stuff that requires very little thought.

After you do your skills assessment I would suggest talking to the pharmacy manager and store manager to express your interest. This will give them the opportunity to get to know you and your interest in the company and position. I would also inquire about positions available around the district so that you can meet with that particular pharmacy manager.

Walgreens pays crappy. I applied also but when I went to take the skills assessment the computer system was down and the manager didnt even bother calling anyone to fix it - it was still down 2 days later. It was in a ghettoish area though so maybe thats why.

Uh oh...how bad is it???

And is there a difference in pay whether you are certified or not?

I live about 20 minutes north of Detroit...

I work for Walgreens as a Senior Pharmacy Technician. It has been over 5 years since I did this, some of this information may have changed. The skills test is fairly simple. I think that they are looking for people that can possibly multi-task. I do not remember a math skills test, but I would not be suprised if it is. The one test that I do remember is a simulated cash register test. I believed that it was timed, but they were checking to make sure that you know how to give back the correct change. It was pretty easy stuff. But just remember that I have not taken that skills tes since August of 2004. Good Luck

Thanx everyone for the helpful responses =)

There is a math skills test and it is not timed but keep in mind it does tell the manager if it took you 5 minutes to add two three digit numbers.

I'm not sure what the pay is in your area because it varies. However, I do know that there is an increase in pay if you are certified.

Ohhh definitely.. I could see that. I've been making change at olive garden for 5 years.. so i should have that down hopefully.. 😛

Hey cschellh, did you end up taking the in-store assessment? If so, can you please tell me what it entailed? I need to take it myself. Thank you!!

You have to do like two simple calculations... match ndcs.... match correct change amounts... type one prescription... read the details on a coupon and answer a few questions about it... ummmmm I think that's mostly all of it... it's been almost year since I took it... haha...

OH... I think there was a question on there too about what you say when you answer the phone. lol...

Do you guys know how long it takes to take the test? And what percentage do you need to pass, if there is a passing score..

you guys can use your phone if you have internet, no one really watches you while you take it. so if you need to look up a few things, like brand generic questions. Your performance will be based on accuracy and speed.

How long did it take for you to finish taking the test? Should I review the stuff from my Pharmacy Tech book?

It took me about 15-20 minutes to finish. I honestly can't remember if it asked any questions pertaining to actual drug names/functions... if it did, then they were few and far between. Most of the questions were either (really) basic math, obtaining information from a prescription label, or hypothetical situations (what do you do if someone comes in for a prescription, but its not available, pharmacist is busy, etc...). I suppose it couldn't hurt to review some of the more common drug names, since thats about the only stuff that you might 'forget'...

I took it about 6 months ago, but I turned down the job. There was one section matching a few brand to generic names. The rest was just being able to read and do simple math.
