Just wanted to know if I need to be considering DO schools or adding more schools to my list. Commentary on chances of getting into Texas schools is also appreciated. Rising senior, applying this cycle (just submitted my TMDSAS last week).

Basic stats/demographic:
  • TX resident
  • Top 20 university
  • ORM
  • cGPA: 3.7 (upward trend)
  • sGPA: 3.6
  • MCAT: 512 (126/128/128/130)
Extracurricular:
  • IM and club sport (competed at the national level) (1000+ hrs)
  • Editor/leadership in undergraduate science journal (500+ hrs)
  • Student government
  • Illustration (hobby)
Leadership:
  • Secretary of student government
  • President, treasurer, executive editor of undergraduate journal
  • President, public relations director of club sport organization

Medical/non-medical service:
  • 150 hrs at a cancer center
  • 25 hrs at a local hospital PACU
  • 30 hrs at a tutoring program at a nearby high school
Employment
  • Retail associate (200 hrs)
  • Art gallery tour guide (100 hrs)
  • Introductory biology TA (30 hrs)
  • Tutor for SAT prep (30 hrs)
Research:
  • Neuroscience lab intern (400 hrs)
  • Orthopedic bioengineering lab intern (100 hrs)
  • Ecology lab research assistant (1000+ hrs)
    • 1 poster presentation
  • Summer program intern at a public university (400 hrs)
Shadowing:
  • Orthopedic pediatric surgeon (100 hrs)

Current school list:
  • All the Texas schools
    • I am aware that UT Southwestern is a reach and that Baylor is a very far reach
  • Georgetown
  • Penn State

You should receive several interviews from your Texas schools. You could also try the newer MD schools:
Quinnipiac
Oakland Beaumont
Western Michigan
Seton Hall
NOVA MD
California University
Also apply to several DO schools and include TCOM and UIWSOM.
