Hey guys! Here’s a list of my stat and ECs:
ORM, Asian female
Residence: GA
Official MCAT Scores: 518 (131/125/131/131)
Citizenship: US
Undergraduate Institution: Emory University
Majors: Chemistry BS, Psychology BA
Undergraduate Graduation Year: 2023
cGPA: 3.94
sGPA: around 3.87
Clinical Experience
Medical scribe: June 2021 to current (3000+hours)
EMT Training: completed Oct. 2023 and finished clinical rotation (~50 hours). Have not been officially employed due to MCAT studying and application but will plan to work as an EMT during gap year
Research Experience
Undergraduate research: Aug, 2020 to May, 2023 (2500 hours, honors thesis with highest honor in chemistry; one pending patent, 2 posters, no publication)
Shadowing Experience
Primary care clinic: 35 hr
ICU: 50 hr
ER: I plan to split some scribing hours (~50) into this category
Leadership Experience
Co-president of an Acapella group Jan, 2022 to May, 2023 (~200 hours)
Teaching assistant of two orgo labs Aug, 2021 to Dec, 2021; Jan, 2022 to May, 2022 (~90 hours)
Assistant manager at a restaurant: July, 2019 to Mar, 2020 (~400 hours, stopped during pandemic)
Scribe ambassador Sept, 2022 to current (~200 hours)
Community Involvement
Lifeline Animal shelter volunteer: Aug, 2019 to Mar, 2020 (~150 hours, discontinued due to pandemic)
Stride Ahead equine therapy: Feb, 2024 to current, serving children and retired veterans with disabilities physical or mental disabilities. (~70 hours and will have projected hours)
School chemistry club: volunteer at school event, national chemistry week, teaching at local middle schools, etc. (~80 hours)
Others:
Equestrian: 4 years, attend local competitions
LOR-I think all of them know me quite well and can speak about me in different aspects
Committee letter includes three letters (PI who is also my science prof for 2 courses, physician who requested to work with me (scribe), and my supervisor at work, all knows me very well personally)
Individual letters include a science prof who I took courses with and TA for, knows me well; my equestrian coach who I take lessons with for 4 years, another physician at work who I connected well with, and a music professor I took 1-on-1 voice lessons with over 1 year.
Volunteer seems to be my biggest weakness and the low score in CARS is hard to be justified. Here’s my school list combining my preference and results in admit.org (took out Harvard cuz no way; took out a few research heavy schools as well)
Reaches: JHP, Mayo, Columbia, UCSF, Duke, Stanford, Vandy, Cornell, Yale
Targets: U Boston, U Michigan, Emory, U Colorado, Brown, Rochester, U Arizona, UCSD, UCLA, Dartmouth, Tufts
Baseline: Medical college of GA, Temple, Jefferson, Drexel, Penn state, Eastern VA, Quinnipiac
They are classified as reaches/targets/baseline according to the website and I still think it looks quit top heavy based on my stats and EC. I’m aiming at applying to 25-30 schools so this is a good number. Any suggestions on which ones to add, delete, or switch? I appreciate any comments and suggestions! Thank you for reading through this.
