Hey everyone, I am an absolute beginner, and I am completely lost. I am very insecure with my chances of getting accepted this cycle and will use this thread to get some insight from everyone here. I need help with school list or at least where not too apply. I've been using MRSAR as a tool but idk how to properly put my stats into perspective.
Here are my "basic" facts:
  1. cGPA is 3.41 and sGPA 3.41 (both are the same)
  2. MCAT score: My lastest test and probably representative was 505s
  3. State of residence: IL
  4. I was born in Brazil and I've had a rough beginning in college and high school
  5. Ethnicity: Latino/White
  6. Undergraduate institution - 4 year college at a normal known college
  7. Clinical experience - 700 hours of ENT scribing, 1 year of Hospital transport volunteering
  8. Research experience - I have 1 summer paid internship with roughly 200-300 hours + 3 years of research on a Neuroscience lab with 1 publication upcoming.
  9. Shadowing experience - 8 hours on Pathology + More that I will be doing this summer
  10. Non-clinical volunteering - I mentored underprivileged kids for roughly 7 months
  11. Other extracurricular activities - During my gap year is when I did my scribing, mentoring and shadowing. I was a Teaching Intern for Chemistry during college.
  12. I had many personal problems during my gap years
  13. I created and published an medical related App on Apple store and Google Play for fun - but its not as good as I wanted to be
  14. I have a medical blog
  15. Relevant honors or awards - I was part of the neuroscience Honors society in college
  16. Learned english when I moved here half way through my High school
  17. Trilingual

Welcome to the forums.

What do your prehealth advisors think about your chances? It looks like you don't have one or never leveraged those resources. It also looks like you haven't connected with prehealth peers/clubs.

When you say "probably representative" MCAT score? Don't you have an official result?

Did you spend your pre-college days in Brazil? How are you a resident in Illinois?

Who is writing your letters? What have they told you about how strong your profile is?

Are you reading SDN articles about the process, the lifestyle, and the issues you'll face? What do you discuss in your blog?

You are not ready to apply this cycle. In the coming year you should accumulate 50 hours of in person physician shadowing (including primary care) as well as 150+ hours of non clinical volunteering such as food bank, homeless shelter, etc. . When are you taking the MCAT?
I will be doing more Shadowing this next few Months and I will look for PCP shadowing. I am also about to start working as a MA (if everything goes alright in the interview). I am taking the MCAT this next weekend.

Hi! Thank you for the reply.
1. I will be talking to my prehealth advisors this upcoming weekend. I am not sure how to "leverage" these resources. What do you mean by that?
2. I am taking the MCAT next week and my most recent score was 505. I am taking one more practice exam soon though. No official results yet.
3. I moved halfway through high school to America. Since then, after 6 years, I obtained the permanent resident status.
4. I have three LORs - One from the director of research at my uni, One from my Scribing, and one from Shadowing. I am not sure what you mean by that, but all of them were happy to just write the letters.
5. I have been reading SDN articles about the process and I am familiar with the lifestyle - I've been interest in this idea since beginning of college. My blog, i discuss case studies I made up and talk about lab tests etc.

Btw, thanks for responding. I appreciate all possible feedback!

Please reread @Faha ‘s post. You are not ready to apply this cycle. There are too many holes in your application that you must address. When did you graduate? I ask because of your LORs. Be careful of what schools ask for/expect. Does your school have a committee letter process? I’m not sure how relevant your scribing letter or shadowing letter are. Read individual school LOR requirements carefully.
Good luck on your MCAT.

I graduated 2023. I think it does. But is it too late to ask for it? Which holes for example?
