Hi everyone,

I am applying this cycle and wanted to make sure I’m not completely out of my depth here. Given how EM-heavy my application is, it probably comes as no surprise that I’m interested in pursuing EM as a specialty. Thank you in advance.

  1. cGPA and sGPA as calculated by AMCAS or AACOMAS
Major: Biochem. Undergrad in PA
  • cGPA: 3.71
  • sGPA: 3.60
Graduated in 2024 —> 3 Gap years by 2027 matriculation. Does that make me a non-trad applicant?

  1. MCAT score(s) and breakdown. Include all (non-voided) attempts.
Attempt 1 - 124/125/125/129 - 503
Attempt 2 - 126/127/126/131 - 510

  1. State of residence or country of citizenship (if non-US)
Permanent resident - NJ

  1. Ethnicity and/or race
ORM

  1. Clinical experience (volunteer and non-volunteer)
  • Volunteer in 2 EDs - 364 hours
Split between 40 hours and 324 hours. I know it’s usually not recommended to include activities with fewer than 50 hours, but it was a key experience in my decision to pursue medicine and something I talk about in my personal statement.
  • Volunteer EMT - 920 hours (ongoing)
  • Scribe in ED (paid) - 477 hours (ongoing)

  1. Research experience and productivity
500 hours. Pre-print, middle author. Paper in review, middle author. No other pubs/posters/presentations.

  1. Shadowing experience and specialties represented
  • EM (DO)- 24 hours
  • GI (DO) - 16 hours
  • Derm. (MD) - 48 hours
  • IM (MD) - 18 hours

  1. Non-clinical volunteering
  • Crisis Textline - 220 hours (not in-person)
  • NJ Red Cross Recovery Caseworker - 175 hours (not in-person but did interact with people over the phone)
  • Volunteer in food pantry/soup kitchen - 160 hours (ongoing)

  1. Other extracurricular activities (including athletics, military service, gap year activities, leadership, teaching, etc)
  • Food service (paid) - 265 hours (trained several new employees)
  • TA for 3 semesters - 350 hours
  • Trainer for one of the ED volunteer activities

  1. Relevant honors or awards
EMT award

  1. Anything else not listed you think might be important
Letters of recommendation - Having issues getting the second science prof. letter. Not ideal but if needed, could I use PI as science prof. since research counted as a graded class?
