Eliminate those that take few OOS applicants, are mission-based (where you don't fit the mission) and those where you are well below the 10th percentile MCAT (Northwestern, U of Chicago)).

I recommend 25-35. 40 will make you burn out on secondaries

I did 20 secondaries and it was PAINFUL. I can't imagine anyone doing 40....
