You seem pretty much set on WashU, are you planning on going to Second Look?

Just a note on this - whether or not you know you're coming, come to the Second look - it's a lot of fun, either way, and if you know you're coming, it's a good time to scout out apartments and the like.

Great! Thanks for the schedule, Keg.

Thanks, jbl16, I just got that e-mail too. 🙂 It's rather open-ended, isn't it?

Yes I think its pretty open ended. I will be attending the second look, are you? I'm almost ready to decline my other acceptances I'm just waiting for the financial aid packages from some my other options just to be sure.

Hey guys, great to find this thread (thanks to Monday_best for the heads up)! Do you know whether everyone who's been accepted receives that email for the 300 word statement? I actually did receive it today too (after I started a thread about WashU in pre-allo, go figure) and don't know if that means I would be competitive for it, or whether my efforts/time might just be futile.

I got it too. The wording of the email seems to suggest that everyone is eligible. I imagine that they'd slip a line in there along the line of "we have selected you as a candidate for our scholarship" if there were actually some pre-screening.

But what about those "warm personal regards?"😉

Hello potential classmates,
I was admitted in dec for the MD program and I'm pretty much set to go to Washu! Washu left me the best impression among all six schools I interviewed at. Hopefully I'll see many of you at the second look weekend.

So I think as far as politicing for students, WashU may be rivalling UMich in their attentiveness. It's amazing what $1.20 worth of plastic and metal can mean. Did anyone else have "all else fail?"

 I don't think any line from any other letter from any other school will rival that P.S.

I was pretty impressed. It seems simple, but it's the little things that make the difference, right?

Now if I could only get one of those little scholarships...

Very interesting point

Fleece jacket + calendar from Michigan VS pen from WashU with curiously hard to open box + pen at interview + alarm clock

let's discuss

Fleece jacket?!
And another negative point for WashU is that I forgot that they required a $100 deposit immediately...

To be fair, we should note that the alarm clock is a "barely functioning" one. However, I happen to enjoy the interview pen from WashU. Best interview pen I've gotten.

I got accepted in December and a few weeks later I got personal Christmas cards from both Dean Dodson and my interviewer. That sealed the Wash U deal for me. I guess I'm a pretty easy sell 🙂

Also, you get a Wash U sweatshirt at second look, a tshirt at orientation (among lots of free events/other stuff that i can't remember), loads of free food for the rest of your med school years and awesome seats for random Cardinals games 😛

But, i didn't get any christmas cards. I feel suddenly unloved. 🙁

Sounds schweet!

BTW, is anyone here doin MSTP?

i'm actually quite excited for second look weekend. as i didn't get the best impression/view of my interview group, i'd love to see the people who actually got in and potential future classmates to see if we click. i also would love to see more about the school.

Me too! A disappointing number of them seemed either self-aggrandizing or socially inept... sometimes both. The actual students, however, were much better. Still, I'm looking forward to Second Look, even despite the ridiculous amount of money it takes to fly from Charlottesville to St. Louis. Man, you guys better be cool, or I'm asking for a refund. 😉

yes, i'm the lazy one who hasn't opened the second look weekend email thing yet (the attachments part) b/c my comp has a vendetta against attachments and i have to go to school sometime this week to open it. just wondering are accomodations paid for (ie travel and housing) or do we do it ourselves?

Housing no travel.

Everyone close to done with the scholarship essays due tommorow? 😕

Yeah, just editting it.
I don't know why I'm bothering with it. As IF I have a chance in a million years... I am more than grateful for the acceptance giving my "spectacular" interview performance.

I had a tough time fitting anything into their 300 word limit. I think the gist of mine was "I'm poor" and "I like WashU."

mine was more like the cliched/disneyesque, it'd make my dreams come true. man, this thread is slow, pick up the pace 3/15/07 as last date update? i'm disappointed.

Any wild speculations about when and how we'll hear about scholarships, now that our insightful, original, and inspiring essays are in? 😉

Thanks for the research, Dr. D. I think you may have accidentally put in the same link twice.

It sounds like we won't know before Second Look, eh?

Oops, my bad. Link fixed! (profile #4327)

I really hope they let us know before Second Look too; it would make for a much more enjoyable weekend to say the least.

I dunno, I would enjoy Second Look Weekend better without the inevitable you're-barely-good-enough-to-let-in, definitely-not-good-enough-to-waste-money-on slap in the face.

In 2005, an Olin scholarship (women only) was offered on March 24.

In 2006, a Distinguished Scholar Scholarship was offered on April 25.

I'd guess middle of April. :luck:

Wow, thanks Dr. Durden. Thanks so much for the groundword. Look at you being all detective-like! See you at second look.

But damn, what's with Alabama? And it looks like I don't have a chance; that guy was a Rhodes finalist....

My chances for the scholarship seem slim after looking in MDapps lol, oh well. Who else is going to the second look?

Wait, I think I've figured it out. University of Alabama... Rhodes Scholar... that profile must be Bill Clinton!

Did everyone get the tentative second look schedule? I'm slightly bummed because I called the school and was told there would be no activities on Sunday, but now there's an apartment tour which I will miss, as well as the ice cream social on Friday. Oh well. Fill me in, guys.

In order to make the ice cream social I'd have to wake up before 7 am and pay an extra $50 in airfare. Or I can sleep until noon and save the money.....

I got a little burned on this too; I leave on Sunday at 7AM so will also be missing the apartment session. I get in super early on Friday (but I got a great deal on my ticket), so had emailed to see if maybe someone could show me around instead Friday morning, or if there are some places they'd recommend. See y'all real soon...

According to someone in admissions, scholarships awarded will begin to be announced by May 1st.....

according to someone else in admissions, they'll meet to decide in 2 weeks on the scholarships. but hey they could decide in 2 weeks and then wait til may to tell us it'd be nothing new considering the treatment i've noticed from medical schools in this process, they love sitting in a room full of envelopes waiting to be mailed out .

I was just about to book my air ticket when I got the tentative schedule email 😛

My email says the apartment tour is saturday afternoon.

Could anyone post the schedule for the second look here for me? I am buying my plane ticket today (I know, I waited forever) and I haven't gotten that email. I want to make sure I don't miss anything. Especially the ice cream social.

Dress for Friday evening is business attire. For the rest of the weekend, dress is casual.

Hmm... I got more of the impression that Froday evening would be "nice, going out to dinner" sort of clothes, not business attire. Although, I guess that's a clearer distinction for girls... I'd much rather wear a swirly dress than a stiff business suit to dinner. 🙂
