WashU decision dates, adcom meetings

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I hear that the admissions committee met for the last time last week, so why do you guys assume that there aren't some acceptances in the mail that haven't arrived yet? And why do you think they would not send out all the waitlist letters before April 15, since people have already been receiving the "thrive" letter and they won't be reviewing files anymore (I assume since the committe won't be meeting)....I'm just trying to keep my hopes up. Good luck to all of you.

they send acceptances via overnight mail, which theoretically should have arrived either saturday or sunday...

speaking of which.. i haven't even got my waitlist letter yet.. i just want anything now.. even a rejection

Wow, I didn't realize that. That sucks. I still had a little hope left, but I guess not anymore.

I just got waitlisted today, and I'm okay with that. One of my friends got an interview offer a couple weeks after mine and then got accepted more than a week ago, so I figured my chances of getting in were dwindling...

Man, this thread is LONG. It took me a page of reading through it to realize I just need to go to the last page from the menu on the top right. I'm kinda new to the whole posting thing.. haha

Good luck to everyone! Hopefully we'll be getting some acceptances posted on here, too, to keep up the morale 🙂

And WashU might have a big waitlist but it DOES move after May 15, and you never know if you're near the top of it so don't get too discouraged...

I don't think there are any acceptances left because they are all sent express mail and you would have already received them. I do think that there are still "favorable" waitlist letters coming though to many people.

It's not ranked, just keep that in mind.

"thrive" waitlist letter received today

So how do they chose the 50 people who will be offered a spot in the class?

I'm going to thrive too...so has any received a non-thrive letter? Do we know those actually exist?

I called the office today and they say that there is only one, large unranked pool of wait listed students

So... has there always been just one waitlist, or did they just change it this year?😕

I believe technically there is only one large pool of unranked wait-list people, but there ARE two different letters and with that goes some sort of distinction to seperate into a "higher-priority" pool, albeit still humongous numerically. I honestly think the "thrive" pool has like a 10% shot of acceptance as opposed to basically 0% for the normal pool. I've definitely heard multiple faculty on the admissions committee at Wash U talk about the two pools in that way before. Also, you can look at last years thread. After much discussion, it was decided that there were two different letters and two different pools and that the end result for said pools was much different. Did you get a different letter or were you just curious and called?

Regardless, and I hate to sound like a downer, I wouldn't bank on Wash U. Considering the following in a best-case scenario, if there are in fact two pools and you're in the top pool (which I've heard is 1/3 of the total waitlist pool) ... Wash U interviews more people than any other school and also rejects fewer. Hence there aren't many spots to be had. I could actually give a % chance if I had MSAR in front of me.

It seems like everyone here is getting the thrive letter. Has anyone gotten the other letter yet? I'm still waiting for mine...

Yet another "thrive". (Sad how much meaning we try to read into a single word.)

Best of luck to all!

:luck: :luck: :luck:

So how do they chose the 50 people who will be offered a spot in the class?

From what I understand, Dean Dodson makes the decision independently by reviewing case by case (basically I think he has an idea of his top waitlisted people, which we will never know) and by getting help from a couple other faculty members. Hence any updates should be sent to him directly and then CC the general e-mail address.

This is a way different distribution of thrive vs. non-thrive than last year. Also I've noticed that they did a few more post-interview rejections than in years past. It is possible they went down to one pool this year and the secretaries weren't lying/uninformed this time.

I got the "thrive" letter, also. I decided to call to see if I could get any more info on chances of getting in (they were very vague) and when the wait list will begin to move (may 15). I asked about differences between the 2 pools and the secretary said there was only 1. Maybe it changed from last year's system. I don't really know, but if there ARE 2 pools, and the "thrive" one is the smaller of the two, then theoretically, we should see some posts of people who got on the lower wait list, or at least people who are still waiting for a response.

Yea, in theory we should. I'm thinking it changed from last year. Vague is the right word too. They're very cryptic about everything.

So is nobody being rejected at this point? I haven't gotten my letter yet, so I'm still fearing the worst...

got home now and received thriver..

it seems like everyone's thriver.. I would like to move on with my life
but oh well.. it's Wash U..

Why is it called a thrive letter?

can the people who are lucky and end up at WashU from this waitlist please pledge to start a club/Student organization/cult called "Thrive"

Why is it called a thrive letter?

Because it has the phrase "I believe you will thrive here" or something like that.

I got a thrive letter too but it seems like a lot of people are getting it so I have little to no hope of getting in from the waitlist. Congrats to all those who were accepted.

LOL. I'll keep that in mind... I already started a band called the Harvard Rejects... a stud org would be much easier 🙂

a guy from my high school wrote a letter of intent last year and was accepted...not sure if that is the only way to be accepted, but if wash u is your #1 it is worth a shot

I want my letter already! 🙁 "Thriving" on a waitlist is better than lingering in the uncertainty purgatory.

i got nothing from them...although i am not expecting anything...i just want to be rejected already....its the only school i have left to hear from that would make me question chicago (well maybe cornell but...i dunno)

I am officially thriving. I am so incredibly honored to be on a waitlist with approximately 1000 other premeds. What an awesome honor.

Just got the thrive letter too. Are we sure the other letter exists?

Maybe they both contain the word thrive. Perhaps someone should paste the entire letter contents so others can compare? Because it clearly doesn't look like there are 2 different letters at this point.

Yes, Brown, for instance, has a rolling waitlist and has been moving since January. Other schools pick up in March when more people get into first choices and start withdrawing.
Wash U, on the other hand, is not one of those schools.

here's the waitlist letter

Mine says the same thing, except thrive is not capitalized. (I don't know if you did that on purpose.)
