I am just wondering how wayne state ranks among the medical schools... I am pretty sure I can attend there, but being that I live in michigan, I also have Ann arbor. I was considering ann arbor, but i am not sure if i can a high enough MCAT to get into Ann Arbor. I was wondering how wayne state is ranked? Also, how many people do residency at Ann Arbor coming from wayne usually?

heh... i think more people want to do residency in detroit since it is a big city and you see everything. Whereas in ann arbor, smaller hospital and you don't see as much.

wayne is a good school, ranked in 50-60s according to USNews, but has awesome clinical experience. The downs and ups are that it is in detroit... the people I know like it there.

I am from Michigan as well, and as far as I can tell, both Michigan and Wayne are excellent medical schools. Michigan has a better reputation though, so it is more likely that you will get a good residency placement anywhere around the country. Although this is also possible coming from Wayne, I think the majority of Wayne graduates stay in the state of Michigan, and a decent amount complete their residency at U of M. So basically, if you plan on staying in Michigan, they are equally good, but if you have plans to do your residency somewhere else, you may have a slight advantage if you go to Michigan. But, of course, what matters most for residency placement isn't the school you come from, its your board scores and letters of rec, so keep that in mind too!

Heh, why does everyone always ignore MSU? Is it really that bad?

Well I ignored MSU b/c I didn't apply there. Overall, I don't think it's a "bad" school, the reason it gets overlooked a lot is because the majority of people who go there go into primary care. So basically if you're interested in specializing at all, it's not the best choice. And the other thing that kind of sucks about it, is that it doesn't have its own hospital, so students end up moving around the state a lot during the third and fourth years to various hospitals to do thier clinical rotations, which just isn't an ideal situation for most people.

I think most people feel that the top schools in michigan are U of M and Wanye, with U of M having the better rep nation wide.

The above post is right. MSU students must travel around MI during 3rd and 4th year.

MSU is based on serving the community. There are 6 places: Flint, Saginaw, Lansing, K-zoo, UP, Grand Rapids. You know by 2nd yr where ur moving to, and many MSU grads place in many specialities in high ranking institution like surgery in places like Hopkins.
Pls folks do proper research 1st
