So when does Wayne send out the mass rejections??? I'm ready to get my letter from them!

Hey! Tell me about it. I'm actually getting pretty miffed about this whole ordeal. It would be nice to make plans as I'm tired of being strung along now for months. But it sounds like this will continue for a few more weeks as our fate lies in the hands of individuals that may decide to decline interview invites at Wayne. I just want this to be over!!!

I hear ya, brother! In my mind, I've already written Wayne off like they've written me off, but I'm a stickler for closure. I got one in-state interview, so I won't complain, but Wayne has such a good rep for producing doctors! Ah, well, que sara again I guess...

Same with me. Also interviewed at MSUCHM but waitlisted in December. This agony of medical school purgatory is just awful. It would be nice to know my status AND to be able to stay in Michigan for my medical training considering I'm getting married this summer!

congrats on the wedding, Mb8111 !! And good luck with all the planning.

I'm still waiting for any post-interview word from MSUCHM (they take an awfully long time making decisions......) -- and hopefully I'll get accepted to Wayne -- good luck to you (and everyone else!!)

This whole waiting game gets so frustrating -- nobody else has to wait this long... I applied to schools way before my roommates, and they all knew within a few months where they were going (one is going into dental, another into public health) -- I don't understand why the med school app process has to be so grueling... BUT we've all made it this far, only a couple more months to go!

I just interviewed at Wayne today, and they said the committee would be releasing more decisions on March 26. This is for students who've interviewed, but they might have more info for those waiting for an interview also.

Hey fastdude, thanks for the info. Hope it went well today. At least the weather was warmer! Did they say they would have more info for those waiting for an interview on that day? Good luck!

Unfortunately they didn't. Neither my interviewer or any of the ladies in the office said much about decisions, just the date they'd be made on.

Thanks much blitzburgh for opening up another interview spot! I just called Wayne's admissions office, and they said they've sent out all of their March and April interviews. However, for those of us who are still in the 'possible interview pool,' which frankly I'm quite sick of being in, if enough people decline interviews then they will draw from this infamous pool. So if anyone else out there is thinking about declining a recent interview invite from Wayne, PLEASE PLEASE notify them asap so the rest of us may still have a chance. I can't even being to relate how bad I need this to happen. Thanks in advance everyone for your consideration.

When is the last interview date anyone has heard -- I someone posted something abt April 17th here. What's the waitlist situation looking like this year? Hopefully they didn't over accept this year too.

I was told they are interviewing through the second week of April, however people are also evidently interviewing into the third week apparently (i.e., April 17). They have given out all of the interviews they are going to give as well; but if people decline these recent interview grants, they will draw from the possible interview pool some of us are still in. I highly doubt they are over accepting this year, as why else would they have extended their interview season? I was told a few months back they were interviewing through the third week of March, and then just told last week about the April extension.

What made you withdraw from Wayne....if you dont mind me asking you..

Anyways i think Wayne State should take more pride in its program. They really dont take the interview process all to seriously. They should have an interview day like other schools that highlights their program and then a more organized tour around the amazing facilities. IDK but sometimes i feel like Wayne can do a lot better than it potrays it self to be. If the medical schools in the US were class i would compare Wayne State as the student with unlimited potential that lacks in confidence and has trouble with displaying its potential. Who knows...maybe im just high and dont know what im talking bout...
peace out

Well I know a person at Wayne State already and the atmosphere there is competitive that and it is a very huge class so not that much attention from faculty. There is however great diversity at Wayne State and good clinical exposure. I also already been accepted to one of my two top choices already and waiting to hear from the second. Wayne State is an awesome school but I am not in love with it like others out there waiting anxiously for an interview. I felt if I went I wouldn't appreciate as one of them would seeing that it isn't my top choice.

I thought that the interview day was a little unorganized, but the students who showed us around did have a good amount of pride in their school. The tour consisted only of seeing a classroom, seeing a anatomy lab, a very brief walkthough of 2 hospitals, and lunch. We didn't really talk to a lot of people throughout the day, so if your 2 tour guides are grumpy, you might get a bad impression of the school. Ours though had lots of great things to say about the school, pointed out the highlights of their program, and were also realistic and told us about the low points such as the medical library being shut down until mid 2009.

You didn't see a lot of people because first years aren't on campus. What you see is the second years there now.

You guys saw the anatomy labs? Poor Gladys. I guess we'll see her brain again in a few weeks. (Our cadaver).

I just got back from my interview at WSU today. My interviewer was really easy going and fun to talk with. The DMC is enormous. All the students had a snow day today, but they found a second year kind enough to give us a campus tour. I was fairly impressed.

edit: Also, is there a WSU-SOM c/o 2012 facebook group yet?

Has anyone created a facebook group for the class of 2012? I searched and was surprised not to find one.

Edit: Doh! Speeter you beat me to it! I didn't refresh my browser while I was searching and missed your edit.

Hey Guys... I am very happy to see that Waynestate is accepting Canadians =D!!!!!

I also am Canadian, and am a freshmen.
Are you guys all from Canadian Universities, or did some of you attend Wayne for Undergrad? I am currently attending Wayne for my undergrad(i commute). Does this have any + or - effect on me?

Dude, make a facebook group....and make it legit.

(I do not have the legit ability.....said my parents:laugh:)

Hey PMED!

I'm a Canadian who is very fortunate to be accepted at WSU. When I was talking to my interviewer in Oct, she told me that there are a lot of Canadians who go to Wayne for undergrad but they do not give any special preference to them for med admissions. However, it should be easier to demonstrate to the adcom your sincere interest in joining their program because of your familiarity of the campus and community.

FYI it is more difficult for Canadians to be accepted than the average matriculant. I imagine something around 3.7-3.8 GPA and 33 MCAT would be the average.

Canadians are lucky enough to be considered OOS for med school purposes at Wayne. They don't have that luxury at other schools. However, they still have to pay the out of control tuition and are still at the same disadvantage that all OOS people have at Michigan medical schools.

Seriously guys. Someone make a facebook group. I wanna meet y'all.

I have an interview on April the 16th, but I am really worried about my chances of being accepted this late. The school's website says that they accept 1/6 of the class every month from Nov-Mar, so they have accepted 5/6 of the class so far, and will accept the last 1/6 this month. what do you think....

You should be fine. As long as you are accepted, it does not matter when ya interviewed.

1. Your chances of getting in are significantly higher than they were before you got interviewed.
2. Worst case, you can use this opportunity to get a little practice for future interviews.

i got in wayne a bit back, just forgot to post it here. Congrats to all others who got in and best of luck to those still waiting.

Does anyone have an opinion about the university housing available for medical students? What is the best option for university housing (ex which apartment complex). My family lives in a city about 30 minutes away from detroit. Do you think commuting would be a better idea? Also, in university housing isnt that still a 10-15 walk to get to the medical school. I would appreciate everyone's thoughts and opinions on the subject...

Where did y'all go to undergrad? I got the vibe that everyone is from Michigan when I traveled north to interview at Wayne. I can't wait till I meet y'all in the fall.

If you can handle the traffic jams then maybe you could save yourself some money and live at home. Personally, I find Midtown to be quite a nice place to live. The rent is decent ($450-$500/month) and within short distance to school (about 5-8 minutes walk). You might want to look into University Towers or Cathedral Tower.

Hey,

I just got an e-mail about some room exchange form. I was alternate listed and am wodering if recieving this means something or is this sent to everyone that interviewed. Thanks!

The communication between departments (in this case admissions and student affairs) at WSU-SOM can be horrible; so I would advise against reading into the fact that you got that e-mail.

Of course with the price of gas who knows how much you would really end up saving (if anything).
Generally, I recommend that you take full advantage of free room and board at any opportunity - but I am not sure the trade off of having to spend at least an hour a day in the car would be worth it in this case. Exception to that would be if you were planning on streaming lectures at every opportunity (which begs the question, how do you learn best)
Can't comment on the university housing - never looked into it as I knew that there was no way I could go back to that type of housing arrangement after having sent a few years out in the real world. I would say to consider avoiding the university buildings with a high % of undergrads - that is unless you would like to have the extra noise while trying to study.

What do the insiders like oldjeep think about April interviews? Is there any realistic chance of getting in?

Is anyone here actually planning to stay on campus?

Is there going to be a lot of waitlist/alternatelist movement this time for the people who interviewed but didn't get in? Hopefully we all will be in the same class next year.

i just got my login id and the roommate request form. who else is with me!

I did receive the room-mate request form (through email) but no word on the login ID.

EDIT: whatever happened to that facebook group someone was creating?

regular mail. im sure you'll get it soon.

Looks like I just lost my privacy. Might just change my user name within a few days but anyway: a Facebook group has been set up...haphazardly. I don't use Facebook much so if any y'all want to fix-er up, be my guest. Look forward to meeting the lot of y'all. Best wishes to those still in limbo - as a repeat non-trad applicant, all I can say is remember that an acceptance or rejection only changes the how and when, not the who....I know, it's just a platitude, but hey I was in your shoes last year, and now this year my friends are chipping in to buy me a flak jacket 🙂 Good luck!

Only 6 people in the group??? Lame. We need more people in the group to make it happen.

Dude, people don't to reveal their secret identity because someone could cross reference their facebook page to suspicious SDN postings, google them, make a spreadsheet of their transgressions, and then send a PDF of it to the Ad Com at Johns Hopkins.

hey guys i withdrew from wayne today. hopefully they receive word before march 26 so those of you waiting for postinterview decisions will get happy news! good luck to all. :luck: btw canadian here

i keep seeing these type of posts all over SDN. The real question is, why does it matter? I'm assuming you'd go to the interview regardless of whether the answer was a yes or a no, so it shouldn't make a difference. And just to let everyone know, I personally know people that got accepted literally just a few weeks prior to class starting, so just chill back for a while and ride the wave. And im not singling you out Kirby, I'm saying this to everyone that has these worries. People will withdraw, seats will open, and these sits will get filled.
