Anyone have any news on the waitlist?
Anyone get in yet?

So my dad works at a local college and one of his colleague's son apparently got a phone call from wayne and got off the wait/alternate list today. I'm not sure how true the story was, but my dad was positive he got it right. Did this happen to anyone else?

How does their waitlist work? Is it ranked? When does movement usually occur, etc.?

Well your source is a complete liar because Wayne's office was closed today just like yesterday because of the power outage in the area. So its not true.

LMAO....cool it

red wings win tonight.... pistons should move back in to downtown D

I got the waitlist email today. I was shocked because it was the absolute worst interview of my life.

how bad was this interview ? I saw some stats that they interview about 60% of in-state applicants, and about 70-80% get accepted... so you are in good shape, unless you told someone to f*ck off...

what did you actually say?

There were so many bad things about my interview. I don't even know where to start. I completely blame myself for the bad interview, but part of my problem is that I work the night shift and I didn't sleep at all before I went to the interview. I live about two hours from Detroit.

Here's a list of some of the things I did that I thought were mistakes:
1. I talked way too much. (The interview lasted about an hour and a half)
2. I said, "I don't know" in the middle of my answers about 30 times.
3. Asked lame questions!!! After I was asked questions, I would ask my interviewer the same question. <--So dumb. Ex: I was asked why I thought diversity was important, and after answering the question I asked my interviewer why she thought diversity was important.
4. I started answering questions, and half way in between my answers I asked the interviewer to repeat the question.
5. Beads of sweat started dripping down my face after an hour.
6. I said that I didn't like the time I shadowed with a family practitioner.
7. I told a lame story about a big guy that came into a family practitioner's office with a broken collar bone.
8. I told my interviewer that I didn't pad my application with volunteer activities because I think people volunteer just for the sake of volunteering. In undergrad I didn't have time to sit around with my thumb up my butt if my heart wasn't into it.

That's all I can think of right now, but I could tell my interviewer wasn't too impressed with me. Trust me though it was bad.

I have no idea how these interviews work though. I felt like I had the best interviews of my life at Michigan State, but they rejected me in a heartbeat. So who knows?

I have been on the waitlst since October, and am still on it. I am a MI resident. I was wondering if any of you guys know how soon we can expect to hear from Wayne after May 15th? My understanding is that after May 15th, lots of people will get in off of the waitlist, so I am hoping...

Same story here, just called in to confirm it 😀 I saw another thread where someone seemed to think most of the alternate list movement occurs around the 15th.

Does anyone know if they will actually reject any of the alternates before their school year starts in August?

I called today, still on the list, I asked and she said "The class is full, but we usually get some withdrawals," understatement you think? good luck all on the 15th.

I interviewed on Oct 19th which happened to be the first call in day. After we got back from the tour ( 🙄 😀 ) we were all just filling out the survey and milling around so we could hear the secretaries answering all of the applicants calls. For the 30-45 min I was there, I heard nearly every call end with congratulations. I didn't hear a single rejection, and really only 2 maybe 3 alternate lists. When you think about it I think this shouldn't be surprising. I feel it’s fair to say the applicants who would have been interviewed in the first block would be the ones who applied early and had an above average application in one way or another. That being said, I think the chances are greater that those applicants would have multiple acceptances at a wider range of school tiers. And yes, I too have heard that a large number (don't know about majority) of the class is comprised of past alternate list members.

i spoke with one of the wayne state admission counsellor who came to dearborn for a Q and A with the students. these are her responses based on my question that I am on the alternate list and what percentage of students actually get in from the alternates list...
it really depends on michigan(AA) whether they accept their own alternates or not. if they don't then most likely wayne will not either since most of michigan alternates have already got spots confirmed at wayne.
most of the movement takes place on or more likely after may 15 as people who have multiple acceptances rarely give the school heads up sooner.
there were some alternates taken off the list as there is no way they would be considered for admission when the time came. they have had a record number of interviews performed this year and even more than normal alternates this year.

all i can say is that i was glad i was still on the alternates when i called them up yesterday.
good luck to all

Does anyone know if we should be calling or writing? I asked one of the people over the phone and she told me, since they know all the alternates are still interested, there is no need to call. But, it seems as if there should be something we could do? Any advice is appreciated 🙂

I have no idea what to do, either. I'm just sitting and waiting until May 15. Hopefully, we'll get in! 😳

Definately. Wayne is my only hope or I'll be reapplying next year... it's not cool. ;[

It's ******ed because we're ranked, but they won't even tell us where we are on the list so we're left in the dark... blah. 🙁

Unfortunately, they don't tell us much of anything. Oh well, such is life 😳

My husband is on at the waitlist at Wayne. Is there anyway to find out your position on the waitlist after May 15th?

Hi Sailcrazy. My husband and I are from Michigan originally. I showed him your avatar and we were trying to guess your boat. We are coming back for the Port Huron to Mac race this year...as we do every year. Do you race? On which boat or class? My husband is in the J35 group. After all of this waiting, I really need a good vacation and am looking forward to the Island.

Small world! Yes, I race... on the J35 Aftershock! 😀 I've never done the Port Huron to Mac, but I've done a bunch of Chicago to Mac races. I sailed over on the east side once, in the J35 North American Championship when Bayview hosted it. (2001, I think)

I'm in a bind this year. A good friend's wedding is the same Saturday as the Chi-Mac race. Even though this is my last real "sailing summer" I'll probably opt for the wedding. I'll do the Chicago NOOD & the the J35/T35 event in Cheboygan Michigan (just east of the bridge and the island) which is held the weekend after the second Mac race. Other than that I'll stick to beercan racing on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan.

Good luck with the Wayne St. waitlist & have a great sail! PM me when you're going to be in Michigan. 👍

I sent my acceptance letter to Wayne State yesterday in order to comply with the May 15 deadline, but I will be withdrawing if I get in at any of the other schools where I'm also waitlisted. Hopefully I'll get good news, too after May 15th, and this should also open up a spot for Wayne State waitlisters.

No harm in starting to work on the AMCAS application now. Seemed like about the time that I started working on it is when I got the call that I was accepted off the wait list.

does anyone have any idea when they will start making decisions after May 15th? I am getting anxious!

My understanding was that spots are usually filled from the alternate list within a couple of weeks of the spot opening up. Of course I might be wrong, certainly wouldn't be the first time.

Someone post something...is anyone getting off the waitlist. What's the latest?

It doesnt seem like there are many Wayne applicants on this forum. They are going to start calling or e-mailing people probably starting Monday 22nd. The waitlist will probably keep moving for another month from that point. I wouldnt have your hopes up too much though since there are probably 200-300 people on the waitlist.

And even more bad news about DMC's contract with Wayne which is still looking very shaky. Might be reason to not even want to hope at all.

It's still okay to be hopeful! I agree that they will probably start calling next week. I wonder if the bulk of the movement will be right away or not. Isn't most of the waitlist cleared out every year?

That's what I had thought and what I have basically been told by most Wayne students. I hope it's true... 😕

I have some new info. Nothing exciting though. I called the admissions office and inquired about the waitlist. She said that they probably wont start making offers to people on the waitlist until after memorial day (May 29th). I guess this is not set in stone, because she did say "probably", but it is better than no info at all I guess. Bottome line is I think we will most likely need to wait a couple more weeks before anything happens.

Wow, they're really gonna make us wait even longer? What a shame. 🙁

Thanks for the info - let's try to keep this thread more active.

Is there just 1 one waitlist or do they have an in-state and out-of-state waitlist. At most schools they seem to be different?

Thanks for any information you can provide; we would be coming from California....interesting dialogue about all of the changes going on there right now. Since we are further away we don't hear all of the daily information.

I thought I read some information (USnews Fall 2001)

****FORMAT Applied Interviewed Accepted Enrolled *****
Wayne State University Admissions
Total: 2,759 629 433 256 In state: 1,016 553 373 227
Out of state: 1,743 76 60 29 Women:1,297 299 205 120
Minorities: 743 140 93 57 International: 143 9 6 3
Acceptance rate: 15.7%

Based on my calculations then:
– 4% of OOS Applicants are Interviewed AND 79% of Out of Staters Interviewed are accepted

This information suggests that they do take a number of students off the waitlist. Do you think this year will be different? Is this data outdated?

Thanks!

I called the admissions office Tuesday afternoon and mentioned I was on the alternate list and asked if there had been any waitlist movement during the last few weeks. I was told that no offers have been given out since the last call in day, but there may be offers early next week.

When did you all interview? I was there April 5th.

As for any specific waitlist info, I don't think any of us have details----if someone does, please share 🙂

Looking at those stats I doubt that they are counting Canadians as being international.

This is weird. I called on Monday and the secretary told me not to expect movement until June. Why are we being told different things? Perhaps they don't really know. I'm confused and anxious! This does not help. I'd rather just be rejected now than 3 months from now...

I also don't understand why they do not release our rank in the waitlist; it would at least help us understand where we stand. Blah. It's not fun... ;[

The funny thing is, I was told that they dont even rank the waitlist until later on, (I'm assuming late May or June). Being that they are telling us all very different things, I think it would be safe to say that they dont have a clear idea quite yet.

If they don't know, they should just say so. It's ridiculous. ;p

I feel like saying "after Memorial Day" and "in June" is essentially the same thing. I can't believe they are taking that long to sort out all their withdrawls. I am so anxious to hear from them. I told myself I would start backup plans on June 1st, but it looks like i'll have to wait a little longer.

Couple of years back I was told that they never rank the alternate list. Instead they look at their withdrawals and then look through the alternate list to find someone similar to the individual that withdrew – trying to work a certain level of diversity (age, gender, background, etc.) into their incoming class.

Hmm... the woman on the phone told me point blank that their alternate list is ranked... so confusing. 😕
