Hello all,

I had a question, i have done okay my freshman year.. after retaking bio i would have a 3.4 GPA.. optimistically speaking.. Say i have all proper research, clinical and shadowing experience, good lors and all the hulaballooo.. say i have a ~3.6 gpa and ~34 Mcat.. with that on hand.. im sure some school would admit me.

but if i wait an extra year.. polish my ap.. study for the mcats even more and pick up my BPCM gpa... and apply after senior year of college.. would i be able to apply top 20? please dont flame me on wanting to attend a top 20 school (who doesnt) i just wanted to know if i had a chance... if it would be better or a waste of time.. Thank you in advance.

The better your numbers, the better you will do...no one can tell you how much better or if you'd get into a top 20 one way or the other. You have to decide for yourself how much better you think you'd actually do with an extra year.

But generally, taking extra time to improve GPA/MCAT and get more clinical EC involvement is never a bad idea if you are okay delaying things a year.

But in my opinion, I'd just go to med school and get it over with. How you do in med school is much more important than whether it was in the top 20. You can get into med school perfectly fine with a hypothetical 3.6/34...and the difference between that and a hypothetical 3.7/36 is not much in the big picture of your application.
