Isn't weird that no one in the general public knows anything about WashU?

Whenever I tell people that I'm probably going there, I always get a blank look, and then I have to explain that "WashU" (which is what I call it for short) is "Washington University in St. Louis."

And then I still get a blank look. Which is fine by me, because I love the school, but I think it's kind of weird that no one knows about it, given all of WashU's strengths in medical science.

Hey vkrn, I sent you a PM.

I've never heard of it

seriously, not before SDN. So are you saying it's not in Washington State? Foxy is confused

Well... at least people within the medical community (i.e. residency directors) know that Wash U is a top 5 school.

I get a bit annoyed when I mention Wash U and then people start talking about Seattle or DC. I'm going to start wearing a Rams or Cardinals hat so that I can just point to the hat. :)

WashU is in St. Louis, Foxy.

It's kinda strange. I used to just tell people that it was ranked in the top five or whatever, and they usually understood that. :D Of course, I have to do the same with Duke, so... If it's not Harvard, Yale, Stanford, or Princeton, people from Canada have not heard of it.

yeah yeah...try going to Brandeis University undergrad and getting respect from people---it seems that no one has ever heard of it. (But that's ok, cuz med schools have :D ) So I know how you feel, OP.

St, Louis....hmmmm, Missouri (sp?) comes to mind. Am I right?

It's the Mid-West. I think expecting general knowledge about something not on one of the coasts is asking a bit much of the American/Canadian populace.

And it is Missouri, Foxy. It's not a bad city... I don't understand why everybody dumps on it all the time!
