Weird Downstate Snail Mail

My mom just called me and said I got a letter from Downstate.. she can't speak english and had to spell out every word letter for letter for me.. and basically I think it said they are missing something and she said this was circled:

"Photocopy of your Fall semester grade report"

erf??? first off Fall semester hasn't started.. 2nd if they mean last Fall it should be on my AMCAS. I'm mucho confused.

Damn I thought it was an interview too... has anyone else gotten a letter like this? I thought I was complete a loooong time ago. In fact, I know I was because they sent me a letter saying I was complete!!!

haha pretty sure it's Downstate she said "got mail from brooklyn" and their fax number is 718 270 7592 and 718 is queens/bk. either way WEIRD!

i got a letter today saying that my app is complete (as it should be) and they will notify me with further updates.

Check the status page thread for the new downstate status page. Maybe it will be more helpful. If not you might want to wait to see the letter before calling them. I know that my friend who iterviewed last year during the spring was told to bring a copy of his fall grades that were not on amcas but that was something specific to his situatio. Downstate tends to be a little slower than the other SUNY's when getting the ball rolling on interviews so don't worry you still have time to straighten this out.

Hmm that is very odd. Fall has barely begun. Might just be a mistake. I guess you might have to call, good luck!

yea i've got a feeling i've been placed in the "hold" list, if one exists yet. my application probably was not appealing enough the first time around and they want another semester's worth of grades to prove my intelligence? that's the only thing i can think of right now.. although i'd feel it's too early to already be puttin that list out!

I got the hold letter also. I'm not sure whether I should look at it in a positive light: I'm not their top applicant, but they still might be interested in me if I do well in the fall. Or maybe it's just a softened prelude to rejection. Does anyone know if Downstate outright rejects anyone at this stage?

i'm wondering the same thing. do they reject anyone in the fall? also, do they give HOLD correspondence to people they've put on hold but are not in a situation where they can provide fall grades (i.e. recent grads)?

i'm guessing that they have you on hold in their office but dont say anything if they dont need anything else from you.

Desidr, the hold letter lists several reasons for hold, and they circle the one that applies to you. So presumably you can get a hold letter even if you won't have fall grades to show them.

Do any of you guys with holds from Downstate have interviews at other places? I thought this school would be one of my best shots. Surely, my application isn't flawless, but I thought it might be good enough for consideration at some schools.

It most likely means you are on hold. They want to be updated throughout the process by you providing your future transcripts. This is what several school's will say in a hold email.

Give Downstate a call if you're confused. They say not to call, but you know what, sometimes...YOU DO HAVE TO CALL! Because they don't keep track of their applicants as well as you'd think. Most likely, a simple phone call can stop an application from being delayed for review any longer than it already has.

I got their snail letter yesterday and it's definitely a pre-interview hold for me. Out of stater with a noticeably poor science GPA (but decent cumulative, high MCAT, and good ECs) so I'm in no means shocked, but rejection stinks regardless! 😳 Good luck to those still waiting!
