A little back story into what happened. I did not pass my advanced placement math test to get into calculus as I was messing around and didn't take it seriously for my university. I was relying on my AP Calc BC scores for me to get into calculus but that didn't work out. So now( my major is biochemistry), I have to take pre-calculus for my first semester which would put me behind. I took it JUNIOR year of high school for pete's sake.

Should I continue on being a biochem major and just take calc 2 over the summer or should I switch majors to low-math major like biology or medical studies?

You'll be fine. I'm a biochem major and I needed calc 1 and 2 for my major. Starting college I had to take college algebra, trig, precalc all before calc 1 because I had a broken Highschool education and didn't have a lot of math experience.

I was thinking about first semester pre-calculus and second semester Calculus 1 and take Calculus II over the summer and I'll be caught up. Think this is a good idea?

I can't see why this would be a bad idea. What are your concerns?

Also, why are you majoring in biochem? Is it because you like it? If so, then it shouldn't be a question. If you don't, then you most likely will change your major anyway. Find something you like and study that.

I definitely think I'll like Biochem and that is why I want to stick with it. I'm thinking I'm fine but it's just frustrating that I screwed up this badly.

Just have to say your avatar gave me the courage to be a unicorn!

It won't be a problem. You can recover from the initial course mishap early on and take advanced classes later. It's all about the scheduling.

Calculus 2 over the summer would be my concern but I'm sure if I worked hard I'd be fine.
Like you're concerned that you wouldn't do well in it since it was over the summer? I think you should be fine if you put in the work. Some people actually do better in difficult courses when they take them in the summer since they don't have 4 other intense courses to worry about.

Summer classes are usually compressed. If you fall behind, you are toast. As long as you can keep up with the homework, you should be fine.

Yeah, I took several courses last summer, and it was definitely weird to have one exam per week for a given class. That being said, I found those classes much easier than others I had taken during the semester because I could spend all of my study time on that one class and not clutter my mind with a whole bunch of different subjects at once.

I'm sold. This screw up sucks but I think I can recover if I put the work in!
Thanks guys!
