Hey guys,
So, not that I have any interviews yet 😉 but I was wondering.. When I shaddowed a DO I was told to dress professionally so I wore high heels (they were fairly low) and the DO criticised me because they are bad for your back. I only wore them because I thought they were expected. Are women wearing high heels to interviews? Any raised eyebrows from adcom members who know how bad they are for you?

no one expects you to wear high heels. in fact, it would be pretty uncomfortable to spend a day in them because you will probably do some walking around the campus at most schools.

I just got back from my first interview. I wore heels, so did every other female. The only thing that was said to me was that I looked profssional. In fact, one of the interviewers from another group complimented my shoes before I left. I think they are totally fine. As long as you don't have on three inch platforms or 80s heels it is fine.

i wore small heels as well, but i don't think that anyone is expected to wear heels as the OP thought.

i made the mistake of wearing heels when i shadowed a podiatrist ... now that was a lecture. 😳

if you've got comfortable heels esp. if you're wearing a skirt suit--i'd opt for 'em (that's just me)...but pants--i might consider 'ballet' flats since you can totally go either way. regardless of heels/flats it wouldn't hurt to bring some band-aids just in case.

i'm wearing a very short heel and i made sure they're comfortable. i think a non-heel with a skirt would look not-so-good. my heel is about a slow as they come though. if my shoe choice of all things is what annyos my interviewer, i give up on this crazy process

Plenty of people wear high heels.

i wore pumps for the interview..i think it suits your formal attire much better. For shadowing i wore flats. I have completely flat feet, and i was okay at my interview in my pumps..they were 2" heels i think...it helps to put a cushiony insert too. The only walking you really will do is the tour of the campus..which goes at a slow pace so i think you will be fine as far as comfort. No one at an interview should raise a brow for wearing heels or flats..wear what you feel best in 🙂

melast thanks for the heads up!

cbenedic: what kind of insert did you use? Something like dr. scholl's? I'm thinking I better gt something for shoes. Did they fit in the shoes alright?

i uesed dr.scholls gel inserts..i believe they have a specific insert for women's shoes. with the gel inserts (and i believe most inserts) you can cut them down to fit your show. The brand of shoes i wore were Hush Puppies (i think i got the from DSW shoes) which are super comfy..they have really cushioned soles..so that with the inserts really helped. 🙂

I'm not trying to make anybody mad, but everyone just needs to relax about the whole process. Look professional, but just do what works for you. I can't wait until the next thread on here is: "Oh God, should I part my hair to the left or the right? Does anybody have a protractor so I can measure the degree to which my tie hangs? What do you guys recommend? 30.3 or 30.5 degrees?

66.6 degrees 👍

i don't think this was too crazy of a post. guys don't have nearly as many choices when it comes to business attire. throw on a suit. you're only real choices are color. us gals have to worry about pants or skirt? and what type/cut? plus of course footwear!

i've read in the MD threads, that many of the schools in the south almost expect girls to show up in skirt suits. i will try to find the link.

but like almost everyone has said, look professional and be comfortable. if you're not comfortable it will show.
