For those of us wishing to remain on the West Coast, we've got 8 schools to choose from this application cycle:

  • ATSU(SOMA) in Mesa $39,700,
  • AZCOM in Glendale $50,129,
  • COMP/Northwest-Lebanon $45,385,
  • PNWU in Yakima $44,650,
  • RVU-COM in Parker,CO $42,120,
  • Touro-CA in Vallejo $42,681,
  • Touro-NV in Henderson $42,676,
  • COMP/Western in Pomona $45,385

How would you order them in terms of:
1) Establishment/Prestige
2) Rotation strength
3) K.I.A. - (Kinks Ironed Out, i.e. new programs)

For example, PNWU's first-year class is entering MS-4, and the other new schools are in el mismo barco, which is why I wonder where they all fit intertwixt each other. No, this is not a flame thread, so take your trolling elsewhere.

My top 4 west coast schools are:

1) Western
2) AZCOM
3) TU-NV
4) TU-CA

This cycle, I'm valuing rotation quality at the top, and from what I've read Western has very strong rotations. Also, I didn't research much on the other 4 schools, so I can't really say much about them.

AZCOM is 50k... kind of daunting when I think of 200k+ on top of my undergrad loans.

Why Henderson over Vallejo?

Stronger rotations most likely. Although vallejo's rotations are quickly improving, the chances that you'll have to jetset all around california to your various lottery-assigned sites during M3 and M4 are high.

From what I understand, Henderson's are much more accessible and better set up.

Touro-Vallejo also loses some points for being in Vallejo. As a Bay Area native I can assure you the area is no bueno. It may be cloistered on Mare Island, but anything from restaurants to grocery stores requires you to go into town. A more wretched hive of scum and villainy you will never find.

(yes, I know there are schools in grungier areas--I just grew up around that place so I hate it).

Why Henderson over Vallejo?

I was accepted to both and chose NV over CA.

They have more established clinical rotations, sponsor residency programs, features unavailable at CA (MERIN, standardized patient actors, on campus clinic, among many other things), the ability to stay in one area throughout all four years if you choose to, is 1 of 2 medical schools in NV, etc. I left the interview day feeling much better about their program.

The city of Vallejo is also a huge dump unlike Henderson. I cannot stress this enough

I second this ranking!

Quick question, what are the main differences between SOMA and AZCOM?

SOMA's rotations are all at "Community Health Centers".... I'm not 100% sure about this, but I'm pretty sure I read something like that on here..

3rd and 4th year at AZCOM is set up pretty much like every other DO school.
