i know this sounds cliche as heck, but i don't think i realized how good it is to have you guys to talk to. trying to talk to my parents (who own restaurants and catering services in hawaii) is tough sometimes because i have to explain everything starting with what the MCATs are. just wanted to say thanks and i'll keep you guys posted on my status 🙂
noht i get the feeling
no one in my family has EVER heard of DOs]
they (including me) immigrated here to the US 8 years ago
times get harder when my mom heard a commercial on the radio saying "make sure you find a doctor with MD degree!?"
then i had the toughest time telling her the difference and the not so different between and MD and DO
Now everyone in my family is in the against DOs mood ever since that commercial, and I am still going. It's the worst feeling ever in my 22 years of life

the letter is actually really nice. gold foil letterhead. my parents were really impressed by it, nicest acceptance letter I had.

I know what you mean... I just try to keep it simple with my family and in depth only when asked.
Got my acceptance letter for COMP!
Congrats!

looks like it took only a couple days.
By searching this thread and others about textbooks it seems most folks get Netter's (I am waiting till I sign up for the student group that gives one free) and/or Rohen. It depends on which format you like. I just bought a set of the Netter flashcards because I like flashcards. At my local med school bookstore I spent a couple of hours looking at all the textbooks - it gave me some definite preferences. Try to look at some of the different books available and check the search function here.
Thanks Archer, for your adivece -- I'll look in the bookstore of a nearby university. I just wondered if buying a certain text would make it easier to follow the lecture notes...I know med-school classes heavily emphasize lecture-content, and if the professor goes by a certain text, then it makes a lot of sesnse to have that book. That's why I was wondering if there is a "preferred" text. Sounds like there are two texts that could be in use, from what you're saying....I'll look around.

Anyone know when the first day of school is?
Anyone know when the first day of school is?
According to the tentative schedule they posted online, orientation week is from August 4th-9th and the White Coat Ceremony is August 9th. Although they didn't post the actual start date for classes, I am assuming classes start August 11th? The first day of classes for 2007-2008 school year was August 13th. Hope this helps!

Lol I got the same sort of attitude from my parents, but then I just made them read a lot of articles about MD vs DO and so they're fine with it. Ignorance isn't what makes the world go round.
Congrats to the other person that was accepted!
keeping my fingers crossed...
this is my last attempt at getting into med school this year...
i literally can't sleep! anybody have some zolpidem or trazodone?
i would think the letter should be in any day now. good luck.
Has anyone heard any news about financial aid award packages? I know they are supposed to keep us informed through westernu email accounts, but I haven't gotten anything since I sent in my FAFSA. Just wondering if anyone else has! -Kate
I just wanted to share something with all who may be interested: I asked a question earlier about what anatomy-books are going to be used...well, today I found that the textbooks are listed in your BanWeb account
. So just log into the BanWeb and click on textbooks. It'll allow you to search for MS1, MS2 classes, which have corresponding texts listed.
Just a hint to those interested.

Cool, thanks. I'll look into it. Where are people thinking they're going to live? I'm going to need to live with other folks to try and stay within budget.
I am going to be moving to California from Colorado at some point during the summer (probably mid/late-June) and I'm looking for a roommate.... I was thinking a two-bedroom apartment/condo in perhaps the Claremont or Rancho Cucamonga areas. Anyone interested??

Tricia Murdoch (and a few students who were also alumn from my school) came down today and gave a presentation on Western U and osteopathic medicine. it was well presented and very informative!! we had a pretty good turn out too, it looks like osteopathic medicine is beocming more popular every day 🙂.
i'm excited for the chance to be at Western, it sounds great!

I spoke with her today in regards to my missing letter of acceptance that was mailed on 3/24 but I have yet to receive....has anyone here been in touch with Ana Garcia recently (the past 6 weeks)?

If you already turned in your deposit you should be able to access your westernu.edu email. Its basically mail.westernu.edu (first initial and last name @westernu.edu) then pw is your last 2 digits of your birth year and last 4 of your social.
In direct regards to your question if you join the facebook group there was a student who posted asking if anyone was interested in subletting for the summer. I dont know their personal info but if you cant get it going I can find out for you. Let me know.
Would anyone here be interested in perhaps getting a group of 4 or so to rent a house in possibly the claremont area?
Hey dakayus, i'm thomas. definitely interested. i won't know for sure until July though (waitlisted at my #1 choice school). lemme know what you're looking for.

Hey everyone.
I have a bad habit of joining parties really late. I just found out about SDN a few weeks ago as I was applying to med school. Western COMP is my number one choice and this forum has been so helpful. Thank you everyone!
I interviewed at COMP on 3/27, I really like the school. It was MUCH cleaner and nicer than what most people claimed on the SDN database. I was expecting some kind of hooverville, but to each his own i guess
.
Anyways, I'm expecting a letter in the mail either this Monday or Tuesday. Anyone have an idea of when Western fills up its class? I hope I didn't apply too late.

Can you post a link to this tentative schedule? I can't seem to find it.
Also, the WCC is this an invite the parents thing?

http://www.westernu.edu/xp/edu/registrar/dates.xml
If the link does not work, go the Western's main page, click the tab for current students, then registrar and then important dates. 🙂
I am assuming that students do invite their parents to the white coat ceremony (at least I hope because I already told my parents..hehe).
