Hey congrats! I just got a call from Dean Adams last night with the good news as well. Did you interview on Tuesday Feb 26? I don't remember meeting you or maybe I did.
I think you could be waiting until April to hear back about waitlist movement because for recent acceptances, the deposit deadline is sometime in April. Hang in there!

If you interviewed Feb 14 (Valentine's Day), then the letter says a $2000 deposit is due by Tuesday, April 1st. During the interview we were told that $1000 was due March 1st and $1000 due April 1st. I called Western Admissions about this, and the lady told me we were misinformed and it should be $2000 due April 1st, but if we wanted to do the 2 installments they would take that also. So, either way will work for us Feb 14th interviewees. 🙂
Has anyone who's been waitlisted heard anything back from Western yet? I got waitlisted from my interview on Jan 31st, sent in LOI immediately and am waiting nervously for any updates 🙁
um ive been waitlisted... sent in a LOI via expressmail, sent a supplementary LOR from lab via expressmail. Still nothing. UGH! i hate waiting.
Well it doesn't look like I'm going to send my deposit in so there's another seat. Good luck to those wl!
thanks! 🙂
Hi,
I sent everything in by the end of December and still haven't heard anything from Western (no interview/status check).
The secondary email says they process the application in 1 to 3 weeks, do they really go by that timeline?
Or maybe I should have called...hum...

Probably should call, it should only take about a month.
If you turned in your deposit then you'll prob have your email activated already. Its your first initial and last name @westernu.edu. Then your pw is the last two digits of your birth year and last 4 of your social. To actually access your email address you need to get a program like Outlook or Mozilla Thunderbird. Look on the western website for the server info of the webmail. 👍
Does the adcom meet every other Thursday or every Thursday?
Answer: "the admissions committee meets once a week. Decisions are made on a rolling basis until the class is filled." According to the Admissions Guidebook.

Is there no webmail?
does anyone have an idea when there may be waitlist movement at westernu?

I got a call from Susan on Monday about a question the adcom had about one of the courses I took. She said they were looking at my file again and I should hear from them soon. Since I was already on the waitlist I guess that means they're starting to look at taking people off it. Haven't heard anything since though and interviews aren't even done yet so I'm not sure when there will be movement. But at least they're looking at our apps again.

When did you have your interview?
just joined the facebook group! just opened my email for the first time, i have SO MANY FREAKING EMAILS!
Holy crap! That is a lot of e-mails! I just opened mine up for the first time too.
I interview Jan. 31st. I got a letter in the mail Feb. 18 saying I was waitlisted, and then March 5th recieved a letter that I was accepted into the Northwest track. So there is movement on the waiting list, I am proof!
I sent a thank you note for the interview, one more recommendation, and a new transcript with my last semester classes and grades.

i also sent a new letter of recommendation and an update on what was going on with me.
Hopefully they will give me a chance.

I sent a thank you note, along with my letter of intent before I even got accepted. Right after I interviewed, I knew Western was my #1 choice, so I sent a letter that next day from SoCal. I don't know if it helped, but I did get accepted.
when is the due date for 2nd deposit again?
April 1st.
Hey ellinopedo182, aren't you on valuemd as well for AUC? Anyways I'm finally done with all interviews and I had a great experience talking to a few of you guys on the 28th! At western everyone was also interviewing and a decent amount had acceptances to allo's as well which really shows the level of the applicants, compared to the other schools I interviewed at.

yeah i am on valuemd, but havent been there for a long time. i pop in there once every month or so to see what kind of new posts they have about DO vs. foreign graduate md's.
did they tell you if they were going to stick with the DO route or take the allo acceptances at the end?
is there a hospital affiliated with western for clinical rotations? or how does it work at western? i know about the northwestern track but that doesnt apply to me cuz im from so cal so no need to explain further!!
does any one know which DO programs do have their own hospitals? i read on here how important it is for a school to have its own hospital....but what does that mean? just a hospital designated for the students of the med school? why is it so bad not to have a hospital affiliated with the school? thanks!

Yes there are affiliated hospitals where we do our core rotations. The link below has a list of our core rotation sites, and some commentary. As a first year I really don't know much about each individual sites.

Also according to our dean 2 of our core rotation sites, Garfield and Alhambra Medical Centers, are in the last stages of getting approval for about 65 AOA residency positions. I don't remember off hand every specialty; but there were 3 IM fellowships (one of them was Interventional Cardiology), orthopedic surgery (2-3 first year spots), and I'm blanking out on the rest - but Dean Adams noted that they should start accepting their first year classes in 2009.

Any fellow students taking the summer anatomy course without ever have taken an anatomy course like myself? I purchased the Netter Anatomy flash cards, does anyone have any other advice on the best way to prepare?
I need to post this on the facebook group but my email is not activated yet, I was thinking about having a bbq so the class of 2012 can get to know eachother before courses begin. Would anyone be interested in this? I have a great place to host it. It is is newport beach so some would have to commute, but I think we would have a good time. There would be a pool, billards, pingpong, beer, sun, and great food! I am thinking sometime in May?

a get together sounds great! I'm either around huntington or orange, but i work in irvine, so either way it'll be somewhat close. Plus, I just moved out here and don't really know anyone on OC.

I'd be up for something like that.
Also, I've taken anatomy for undergrad and will be in the ISAC class. As far as prep goes I'm just going over my Anatomy Coloring book, podcast and online sources.I live right here in Orange County as well so I think a BBQ is a great idea!!!

Does anyone know when classes actually start in August? The academic calendar for Fall 2008 isn't posted yet.
Also, for those of you doing ISAC-- did you have to wait until they received your deposit to sign up?
Thanks!
I emailed Dr. Kuehn after I got accepted but before I turned in my deposit and he said he added my name to the list.
ugh, i hate waiting. i found a new development in ontario (torino at piemonte) and i want to buy a condo there, but it would be useless if i dont get off that waitlist.
Does anyone know when/if the waitlist will have movement? And is it ranked?
Prob be starting after this month since thats the deadline to pay your full deposits. The waitlist is only separated by high and low but no rank within those divisions.
