What do you mean by "more organized"? What don't you like about Western?

Funny that all 3 of lolstall's posts are about the school being 'unorganized' without much explanation.

I'll be the first to tell you, and the administration, that the schedule itself is the biggest obstacle to efficient time management, particularly in regards to ECM.

So what, which schools DON'T waste your time? This isn't something unique to COMP, trust me.

I'm not a fan of the school at all, I don't like the way a lot of things are done. I hate that we have a full 40 hour week of cranial right smack in the middle of 4th semester when we should be studying for boards. I hate that tuition is >40k and climbing. I hate that the administration is building dental, podiatry, and optometry schools instead of making the existing colleges better. I hate the campus and the area the school is in, thats why I don't live there and only go to campus when necessary. But none of those issues have kept me from getting a good education so far, and I think it would be naive to discount a school based on superficial aspects like being 'disorganized' (name a school that isn't), and being in a crap area (have you seen Keck?)

No big deal...relax. The school has been a bummer for me and my buddies and so I thought that I should say something. I'm sure that it is great for some. The schedule is constantly changing, the admin is really, really defensive, and it is hard to get things done. I have friends at schools that have been around for much longer and they say that the admin and profs are nice to them and their schools are very organized. We rarely encounter that at Western, probably because the class is massive and it is run like a business. Other med schools are more organized, less focused on making a dollar, and much friendlier. Just an FYI!

Instead of submitting LOR's from 2 science professors and 1 non-science professor, what if I submitted LOR's from 3 science professors? Would that be grounds for throwing out my application? I am having a hard time finding a non-science professor whom I can ask.

I'll give you the same advice I have badapplestix...try to get a committee letter together, it'll fulfill all the requirements and make things a lot easier. If you can't get a committee, all I can suggest is that you start rubbin elbows with some non-science faculty. I can't say that having 3 science recs will disqualify you, but they ask for a non-science rec because they want to see that you are well rounded and not just a socially ******ed science super-geek

Alright, gotcha. Not trying to be a P.I.T.A., but I'm almost certain that the community college that I'm currently attending does not have a pre-med committee for that LOR. Also, I have a non-science undergrad degree (but that doesn't really make me any less socially challenged). I'll quit whining and try to see if any of my non-science professors from a year or two ago still remember me.

I submitted 3 science-professor letters and 1 MD letter, and I was accepted with no reference to not having the non-science-professor letter. Besides, I asked whether this was okay before I submitted my packet, and the admissions office said it was no problem. You should be fine.

i visted on a tuesday.... there was class from 800 to 1200...then a lunch break and a 4 hour OMM lab. they only had OMM lab that one day of the week... so im not sure of the rest of the week, however many of the students were complaining that they had a 6 hour day of class that was coming up.....it seemed like the schedule as far as hours per day spent in class varied from week to week. i dunno tho, i could be totally wrong.

Guys if you need to buy or lease a car when you start at western, like me, let me know there are so many great deals you can get on new cars, dont even bother with those wolfs(salespersons at the dealers) let me know and I will give you the number of the auto broker.

I finally got into Western COMP today. Sent my letter of intent an hour after opening my letter. I look forward to meeting all of you!🙂

Hi guys,

i am planning my vacation to asia, is there any event that is mandatory between June 3 to july 16? Also, where can we check how our schedule is going to be like, i feel like i don't have a clue on what is happening and when i was suppose to have anything done.

Did they say that the class isn't full yet?
well I guess it is possible me and marduk were the last ones, but I'm optimistic for you all. They hadnt even bothered with the 2013 letters yet.

I've been wondering this too. White coat ceremony is one of the first events, right? Anyone know what day that is?

good luck to those still waiting!:luck::luck:

thanks - congrats to you! still crossing my fingers!

If I'm not mistaken, orientation starts August 4 and WCC is August 9. Classes will probably start the 11th.
thanks.

oh yeah, so when I interviewed a couple wks ago, Dean Adams mentioned that IF the class was full but they really wanted you, then they would send a "guaranteed acceptance into c/o 2013" letter. And it would essentially be both an acceptance into next year plus very top of the waitlist for this year. Great idea if you ask me. 😀

:luck:

Thanks so much for the info! I hadn't heard that! He didn't mention when they might start pulling from the waitlist did he?

Thanks!

Congrats to all the acceptances 😀

I will be a 2nd year DO student at Western this incoming year, and I am looking for a clean and considerate female student to share the apartment w/ me in Chino Hills.

- single room with bathroom for around $700/month starting late June/early July
- the apartment complex is right next to Ranch 99 and has Costco, Target, Albertson and a new shopping mall close by
- Chino Hills is pretty safe compare to Pomona
- the drive to school is around 10 minutes

Contact me if you are interested. Thanks 😀

What departments/courses qualify for the behavioral science requirement at Western?

Thanks!

What departments/courses qualify for the behavioral science requirement at Western?

Thanks!

Hey. Normally I think they require psych or sociology or some sort of "soft" science, but I actually called them up and got permission to count my ethics credit towards the behavioral science category. I think if you're in doubt, just apply anyway and give them a call (or call first); they're pretty lenient.

i'm just curious to know how many people from seattle and hawaii are co 2012...

Hey... interesting combo there.. seattle... or Hawaii.

I'm from Seattle though! Living in SoCal these past two years, but originally from Seattle.

That's a rather rude thing to say.

hmm, not really trying to make it sound rude. All i said is that because he just withdrew from the class of 2012, especially after interview season was over, the ones who are on the waitlist will have a better chance of getting his seat rather than if it was during the interview season (which ended April 17) which it could have been given to another interviewee and making it even harder for those on the waitlist to get off of it. 🙂 see, i wasn't being rude.

hmm, never thought of it that way.

Congrats...you will love Pomona!

Not rude at all just the truth.

8 is always there to back me up. 😀

p.s. i think i was half asleep when i was writing it so i may have made it sound a bit harsh to what i actually was trying to get it to sound like.

Okay, makes sense, somewhat. I misread your post. My mistake.

Hi, yet another post.
Looking for 1 more to join group of 4 students who is not doing ISAC. If you meet the stringent qualifications, then please send me a pm! The one person with drew to go to another school so the search continues!

No we haven't found a house yet, but will look near the end of June.
We plan to live within a 10 minute drive.
Looking at rent prices for a 4 bd at about 2000-2500 a month total.

That's about it, so yes please PM me if you're interested.
Thanks!

Tkim, are you a Western grad? If so, what were your impressions of the school?

I graduated last year, and my impressions of the school are now four years old. i have little knowledge of how it is now so i can't really comment.

there were certain things i did not like about the school, which i thought were particular to my school. but reading SDN for the last few years tells me that there are many schools like mine - neither the best or worst but somewhere in between. no school is perfect.

school is just a vehicle to your success. it got me to where i wanted to go. make your best gut choice, and once you make it, go with with and don't look back.

I will say that if staying in cali is a priority for you, and you can't get into another socal school, western is pretty established.

if you plan on doing residency somewhere else, find a school closer to where you want to do residency and practice and go there. it will save you buttloads on travel time, money, and away rotation ops.

So if the ADCOM meets today, wednesday, they may be picking from the waitlist pool if the class is not full. hmm.

*******edited: i guess today is thursday, they may have met yesterday or not.
