Western U have a SMP?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
To ask one more time: Does it help to do a DO affiliated post-bacc for Allo schools? It's not that I don't want to do DO. It's that I want my SMP to help me toward both forms of applications.

hahaha, that's a good attitude. I just wish those who did get accepted woud just end everyone's misery by saying they got in. :diebanana:

I didnt get a call, but I JUST received an email with my acceptance letter. (thank you blackberry). Its crazy though, because they want everything in by June 1st. and its a 3 day weekend. err Check your emails!!

the subject says MSMS accept. and it has 2 attachments. One is acceptance letter and the other one is for you to accept or decline and fax/mail it in.

If you want to attend an SMP that will help towards both applications, I would attend an allopathic SMP such as Gtown, Tufts or BU which have a substantial number of their students attending DO school afterward.

Osteopathic SMPs are generally catered towards taking students into the same osteopathic school and have a positive influence in the regional osteopathic schools as well. Not saying it can't be done to go to an allopathic school but it's far less likely based off of past numbers that I have seen than the reverse with allopathic SMPs. I'd say you'd stand your best chance for allopathic school if you had to attend an osteopathic SMP, if it was at a very established and reputable osteopathic school, ie. PCOM

man.. that sucks! its okay tho! i still have hope. no one has claim to be accepted yet, but then again.. why would the first people they tell be group of random people on SDN. lol its not over till 5pm just like artest making tat shot last night.

You should create a new sn as "Ron Artest loves KimChi"

Hi kimchieater,

Did you also get accepted to the linkage ?

Does anyone know of any good apartments nearby? I am just trying to avoid the rough and gritty neighborhoods, while still keeping the cost of rent down. If anyone lives in the area or has any good recommendations, I would greatly appreciate it. See you all very soon 🙂

I don't know if they have made a waitlist or anything or if there are still people pending acceptance but I just spoke with Jodi this morning and apparently they had never received my fax with my declination. She was very nice about it and thanked me for calling, even saying she'd be surprised to not see me for an interview at the DO program this fall lol

Now that they have my official word in it opens up another spot in the MSMS program and the linkage to the DO school. Hopefully one of you all slides into the spot!

I have not received a call, email, or mail yet regarding the MSMS program. I emailed Jodi twice and asked about my status on 5/27 and 5/28, and she did not reply yet. Wondering if I should send her a third email or give her a phone call.

I am concerned and nervous just sitting around waiting.

Call them...that's what I did..I did not want to go through a 3 day weekend of misery. I didn't like what I heard but was glad I knew the result. Good luck to you!

just got the acceptance call. pomona here i come!

I also go the acceptance call today! Look forward to seeing you all!

I'm still fighting back and forth with myself about whether or not I'm going to accept. I'm not exactly pleased that we only have 6 days to accept our position in the class but it also doesn't say anything about a deposit, etc. I'm confused. I think I'm going to give Jodi a call and ask if I can get an objective opinion on whether or not the program is right for me 🙁 So much money and I'm so torn.

For those of you guys who got accepted to the MSMS program or if you also got accepted to the linkage program, too, could you give some of the applicants for next year some statistics (Your OvGPA and SciGPA, GRE or MCAT scores, etc.)?

I really am interested in this program and I want to get all the information I need to know what I need to complete for the upcoming year. I'll have around a 3.0 GPA (total and sci) with many repeats and I'm planning on scoring between 27 and 32 on my MCAT in 2 weeks. I also have a lot of extra curricular stuff completed, too (certified EMT, volunteer approx 100 hours, 3 years MA and a year research at LLU).

Please, just let me know what's up! PLEASE!!

She should have responded on Weds. I had a friend email her tuesday too and got the response. They completely failed in contacting people by last friday and sending out emails with acceptance/declined/waitlist.

In this day and age....is it that hard to send out emails to less than 100 people already on your mailing list?

Thanks Dan, new to the site, now I see the link to that sort of data. If I get a 33, than I will also have very similar numbers that you have, which makes me excited to know I still have a good chance!
Thanks

How has the first week of the program been for those that were accepted and are attending ?
What is the schedule like ?

i'm interested in applying for fall 2011. i have yet to take the mcat but i graduated with as a bio major with 3.1. assuming i get a mcat of 34+, how competitive will that make me? what if i score exceptionally higher, do you think it'll make it extremely competitive? by the way, are ec's required? i have not done any yet.

i wonder how hard is it to get into the DO program (guaranteed)

this sounds like a great program; i was wondering if anyone here has applied to and been accepted with only a gre score? I haven't taken the mcat yet..

Don't quote me on this, but I'm pretty sure that to qualify for consideration for a linkage seat in the program, you will need that professional school's enterance exam. So if you're dental, you need to apply with a DAT score for their linkage agreement to their dental school and MCAT score for the osteopathic school.

how important is extracurricular and volunteer for this post bac?
