has anyone from the january interview (besides pharmdhope and pharmkas) received an acceptance email yet? it's already wednesday of the 3rd week.

I received my acceptance email yesterday morning as well! Very exciting news to wake up to! Congrats to everyone accepted and fingers crossed to everyone still waiting!

It's not a set few days. I got a call a week and a half after my friend did for the Jan date. So there's still definitely a chance you'll get a call.

Really? that makes me feel better, but the 26th is next week they wouldn't call that late would they??

I'd say Friday would probably be the last day they would make the calls, unless there was a last minute cancellation or something like that. It may not be a bad idea to call and just check the status of your app. Can't hurt. Good luck!

yeah you're probably right, doesn't make sense for them to tell you last minute, I actually called last week before the made invites, Elaine told me my application was being reviewed. I guess thats better than getting a hold letter like I did last year , well thanks for your encouragement. 🙂 I will continue to wait...

OH Yes they Would! They called me on a Tuesday, 4 days before the interview. I don't know if its coincidental but my Classmate got the call the same day but she ended up rescheduling it to the January interview. It could be that someone had cancelled their invitation, but when i asked Danielle how many spots left, she told me several more.
You never know, Some people might be called for an invite for Feb interview, but they might have requested it to be postpone to March.

WOW that still gives me hope! Were you already preparing for an interview?, thats really short notice, I saw in earlier post that you were already accepted. Congratulations!😀 Im always so happy to hear when students get accepted because its been a long time dream of mine. This is my second/third time applying to western but I really don't thinks my gpa is high enough to be invited (its a 3.1) with recalculated gpa, but I have tons of experience. I did call the school and speak to Elaine she said anything above a 3.0 gets looked at, but according to their website average GPA for acceptance is like a 3.5 May I ask what was your stats and if you had spoken to anyone at the interview with a low gpa also, who got an interview

Just got my acceptance letter in the mail today with the e-mail address and everything 😀 It feels so official!

I see that you got accepted to both western and USC...which one is your top choice?

I interviewed at Western University on January 29th, 2011. Two people I interviewed with already received decisions this past Wednesday (Feb 16), one of them I know received via E-mail.

If I haven't heard anything, does this suggest that I was denied?

If you haven't heard anything yet, then you most likely were not accepted at this point in time. However, that does not mean you're rejected either. You could have been placed on hold/waitlist. You should wait until the official letter comes in the mail. Nothing is for certain until that official letter comes informing you of your status. But I wouldn't lose hope. If you are placed on hold or waitlist, there is still a chance of being accepted. People do decide to attend other schools. You just have to be patient. Good luck!

I haven't gotten any letter but I did get a call last week from Dr. Campbell (one of my interviewers) welcoming me to Western. I interviewed Jan 29th too 🙂 I think they were missing something from me so they couldn't issue an official letter yet.

I mentioned this in other threads, more than half of my class came from waitlist. Last time I checked, UCSF, USC, UCSD, and even UOP is usually the first choice for most students. Western tends to accept the same students.

Hi sweetymalek. I interviewed last year in January and got placed on hold. The people that were placed on hold from December and January may get looked at again and can also get accepted when the February and March interview people get their acceptances. After each interview in February and March, there were a few (like 1-3 people that posted on sdn) that got accepted from the hold list from December and January. If not accepted, then all the people on hold from December, January, and February will be given their new status with the March interview people some time late March or early April. At that point, if you're not accepted, you're gonna either be denied or alternate. Just so you know, there are a lot of people on the alternate list since western doesn't reject very many until the end of the cycle. I heard from someone the previous year since she/he called Danielle and asked (not sure if its true), that there are 200+ students on the alternate list. Since you hear that about half of their 120 class get accepted from the hold/waitlist, you kinda see your chances. Hope this answers your question! 🙂

I was interviewed on Jan. 29, but I have not heard anything yet. I just wonder if all of you got the official mail yet ?( even it is hold or reject letter)

I got a hold letter. You should call them to double check your status.

I thought your Tuesday was last minute but Danielle just called me 15 minutes ago for the interview this saturday! How do I prepare in such a short time?

Haha, same here, just got the call. Nice, we have 2 days to get ready. Let's do it! 😀

Hey guys, Im interested in applying for western for the upcoming application process. I know that Cali schools dont require the PCAT, Western, included. If thats the case, I was wondering if the PCAT is a factor at all. It wouldnt be fair for someone whose taken the PCAT to be considered over someone who hasnt because its not an minimum requirement. However, I would if it would be more of a bonus, or something to offset a low GPA during the consideration process. Thanks for any input.

Nope! I don't even think there's a place to put your score from what I can recall (only on PharmCAS??). But for Cali schools, GPA is weighted quite heavily but you also have to be a well rounded student. I don't believe they bother to even look at PCAT scores.

I think the best way to prepare is to look through the school feedback section. It's a great indication of the types of questions you may be asked during the interview.

Congrats! Were you like in Shock? Practice Practice Practice~
* Tell me about yourself
* Why Pharmacy
* Why WesternU out of the others?
*What would you do if there's a team member who's uncooperative?
Just have those questions down, and the rest should come into play...

Thank Goodness for last minute invites! It DOES happen! 😀

Ask yourself if you could consider out of state schools ( i'm assuming you're from CA). I never liked taking standardize tests, so I didn't take the pCAT. Even without the pCAT you still have the possibility of applying to 11 schools. If you just wanna stay in California, you got 8 possibilities. I went to one of the Western presentation at my school and the Representative said they don't even look at the pCAT. Even if you got a perfect 100, it doesn't matter to them at all.

I received a hold as well 🙁

I got a hold letter last friday also! came just in time so i submitted my deposit for UOP. but if I do get into Western, I'd choose Western and lose the $750 deposit for UOP 🙁

has anyone from the December "hold" list hear back from Western yet? 😕

That's interesting, may I ask why? Isn't it cheaper and shorter in length?

I am currently very anxious because I haven't received any interview invite from Western. I submitted my sup. application on 10/30/2010. I got an AC (active consideration) from USC, and I will have an interview at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, Worcester campus (accelerated program), but I really do not like the accelerated program which will force me to cram knowledge in a fast pace. Should I go there for the interview ????
I am thinking about getting a pharmacy technician license to get more hands-on experiences and reapplying early (June) this summer for the 2012 school year if I can't get in either Western or USC this year.

I think you should go to the Massachussetts interview 🙂 It's worth a try. If that doesn't pan out then get your tech license. But definitely go to one more interview 🙂

Personally, I took the PCAT as a back-up so I can apply to out of state schools my first application cycle and also to get it over with if I needed to reapply. If you consider yourself to have a low GPA then definitely take the PCAT because you might need to apply to out of state schools. Unless you have a stellar application (minus the stellar GPA), setting your hopes on non PCAT schools like in California might not go down too well. So I say raise your chances and take the PCAT. USC mentioned in their school session that they might make it a requirement down the road someday. 🙂
Good luck...

PS: As of now, I don't know if some schools look at your score and factor it in. You never know.

I think it's great that you had an interview for SC, that means you have a chance at least of getting pull off the list. I think that if you're good enough to get interview at SC, then you must have a great stats and there shouldn't be a reason why Western wouldn't call you for their upcoming interview. Unless you're missing the 3 rec letters or anatomy, physio, and micro which are diff from SC requirements.
As for your invite for Worcester, you should do it. You'll be done in 3years( 2014) whereas if you wait another year and apply to W or SC, you'll grad in (2016). That's 2 years Difference and perhaps a loss of $ 200,000+ in potential earnings. It's just a suggestion though. Unless you're like ME and your whole life revolves around soCAL, then I don't know.

I got a call this wed for an interview on sat the 26th, for everyone who has interviewed how was the essay portion? Was it mainly an opinion question? At my other school interview iit seemed like I got a lot of scenario questions because I have lots of experience, did any one have that happen at western? This interview is so important to me I feel like I can't prepare enough

I was at the January interview and the essay question was very much opinion based and open ended in how you could answer it. It was about a specific topic but I felt that even if you didn't know anything about it, the prompt left you plenty of room to answer it just fine.

I think you should def go to the MPCHS Worcester. I went. The city sucks (imo) but the school is nice and the faculty seemed nice overall. New classrooms, video conferencing capability, cheaper than Western and USC. But if you're not into the accelerated program, then it might be a waste to fly out, esp with the weather over there right now. Think about it for a bit. They also don't require you to schedule your interview asap so maybe you could try to schedule it for one of their last interview dates. I don't think you'll be at a huge disadvantage in terms of being admitted. I feel like it's a backup school for many. It was for me, at least.

Good Luck to my buddies, Sandra, Sam and his lil sister, and everyone interviewing tomorrow! :luck:

I have a cumulative GPA 3.83 (Science 3.78, Math 3.83, Non-science 3.87) and will finish B.S in Biochemistry this coming June.
I finished all prerequisites for Western including 3 rec letters (1 from my pharmacist, 2 from my professors).
Thank you for your suggestion. I used to make that calculation.
However, the reason I do not want to leave soCAL is that I have two young children. Although I have my family (mom, dad, husband, sister) take care of them, I will miss my beloved children, and they tell me they will miss me too.
If I were single, I would have gone to any school I get accepted this year to get this done.

Will your interview be on 3/26 not 3/19? I checked the school website, and the last interview day is 3/19. My friend who is currently attending Western said that they might open more interview dates to look for well-rounded students. I am wondering is this the case??? 🙄

So, How was the interview?👍

I think for the most part I did ok, I'm hoping they looked pass my nervousness, I really tried hard to relax and be myself. The interviewers were very nice. Just keeping my fingers crossed

That's good that you tried to overcome your nervousness! And it definitely helps when the interviewers are very nice. My experience from the December interview was the complete opposite. The professor who interviewed me was nice but the student interviewer had attitude and was rude. Not a pleasant interview at all. 👎 You seem like you knew what you were doing. Best of luck to you! :xf:

Really the student had attitude/rude? that sucks I actually had a professor and a preceptor, I was like omg, does that mean I'm going to be graded super hard?!, it made me tense. I didn't go back to look at the other posts but have you heard back?

Yeah. She seemed like she had a stick up her butt or something. Kinda had that "I'm better than you" attitude. Maybe she didn't like me or had a bad day? I don't know! And yes, I did hear back in January and I was placed on hold. I was expecting a straight up rejection but who knows, it may be coming in March. LOL! But **** happens and to be honest with you, I wasn't too upset because everything happens for a reason. I got into my #1 choice after Western interview so it's all good!
