congrats Seles! i got in too... hehe and i was all bummed yesterday about SC... now i feeel more secure =)
 
At first when I saw the small envelope, I thought..ohh man, another waitlist.

I opened it and to my great surprise...it was an acceptance letter! woo hoo! 😀

hi guys!

did your acceptance letter indicate how many students were accepted in the first batch? how many students interviewed on dec. 2nd?
 
I know they interviewed about 100 people. It says so on their website.

No, Western doesn't tell how many they accepted.

I don't think they would tell the waitlist letters either. At least, I didn't know how many were accepted when I got waitlisted last year.
 
hey airen.. nah the acceptance letter doenst state any of that. All it says is that youve been admitted.. u need to respond by blah blah... more blahs.. nothing statistical like the USC email. Just to let u kno tho, like SwanChick said, the letter comes in like those normal small envelopes, not one of those packet looking ones. so don't get discouraged! hehe.. i totally thought the same thing, swanchick. i was like.. Great... another small envelope. haha
 
i got accepted too!
 
So yesterday USC said "active consideration". Now today, Western said, "you're on hold." Congratulations to everyone else. Being on "hold" is even worse than being an alternate.

This is just too depressing actually. Two schools in two days say no. How pathetic.
 
i got placed on hold again. I'm so depressed now. 🙁
i wished i had another interviewer. My interviewer asked me technical questions. I guess I will wait another year or have to go out of state.
 
this is so depressing, going from alternate last year to hold this year.
i feel like going into a cave in the mountains of aftganistan and hibernate for a year.🙁

Yea. This sucks! And I still have to work on a presentation AND a lab report for my adv. organic chem. class that I really despise. They're both due tomorrow! Add this pressure with the letters from USC and Western (both put me on hold btw)...this has been a pretty sucky week. I felt so confident going into this and now...urgh!

Hopefully it works out for you somehow. Good luck anyway.

congrats to those who got into western! and for those who got put on hold, what does hold mean??
 
When you're on hold, they keep your appilcation on file. They review it again on a certain date (my letter said Feb. 24) and decide to either accept you, deny you, or list you as an alternate. As an alternate, I think you get the next spot if anyone withdraws their acceptance.

I think "hold" is worse than "alternate". Then again, I haven't heard anyone say they're an alternate yet so who knows.

Hold means that they will review you AFTER they have reviewed all the alternates.

According to a Western representative from my interview last year, they put about ~150 ppl on alternate last year and out of those 150, ~60-70 were accepted.

Sorry to break it to you, but I've never met a person getting in when put on hold. It could probably happen though. Your hold status can still become an alternate and even an accept. You never know.

Well that's depressing to hear. I wish they just kept a straight face during the interview so I WOULDN'T feel like I did a good job. That way, I wouldn't be so surprised if I didn't get in.

And on hold??? I really thought I did well with the interview and the essay.

So if I have a "hold" status with Western, does that mean I probably have a lower ranking with USC?

O wonderful. That's the only thing that makes sense to me.

That's exactly how I felt with USC. I even got positive verbal feedback and still no acceptance. I felt led on.

Also, all schools are different. Just b/c you got put on hold with Western does not mean you are ranked low at USC. I've heard of ppl getting into UCSF and not Western.

Admission in CA schools is such a big mystery.

Swanchick, congrats on making it in to Western! I haven't heard anything from Western yet but will they consider your fall semester/quarter grades and possibly change their mind about bumping you up from Hold to giving you an interview, even if its the last interview session?

Please advise............😳
 
did anyone NOT get a letter from western today? i didn't and my mailman is usually pretty speedy. my stomach is doing a million flips right now after hearing everyone's status.

congrats to those who got in!!!

Maybe you should consider being a counselor as a side job....you know it would be helpful to have pre-pharmacy counselors in school!

From reading multiple posts last year, I have seen that happen. This one guy/girl got placed on HOLD (no interview) around Jan, and ended up being interviewed for the last interview date. Not only was he/she interviewed, he/she was also accepted!

You still have a chance! 🙂

Being put on hold is the same as being rejected. My hopes are gone!
 
For all those "on hold" status, I feel you guys...I mean, after getting "defferred decision" by UOP and an "active consideration" from USC, I lost a lot of confidence. Today, I was lucky enough to get acceptance into Western :=)

My point is, Don't loose HOPE . You guys are all competitive applicants. You'll never know what turns out in the end...call the schools and speak assertively to them, you'll meet someone kind and to help you. In the mean time, keep up the school grades and update them all the wonderful things you are doing now :=) I m sure it will make some difference when they review your files again :=)

actually, i just got an email from them yesterday saying they got my main and suppl apps. i sent mine in right at the deadline... figures...
 
Hey guys, I just got a letter from Western saying that I'm "on-hold" until Feb 15. The thing is I didn't even have an interview. Why's that?
 
There are two types of "Hold"

HOLD after the interview.
HOLD before the interview.

Hold before the interview means that they are not ready to make a decision right now regarding your status.

I was put on the USC "active consideration" list. Whatever that means! I got accepted into Western today though and I'm quite grateful for that.
At this point, even if USC accepts me later on, I'm ready to tell them to "stick it"!
Yes i'm a little anal about the fact that my Usc interviewer was an absolute ass wipe who thinks he's better than everyone else. May UCLA football kick Trojan ass every year from now on!...Amen.

Western is a great school and I do feel that I wil learn alot more with the "block" system conpared to the conventional learning system...
Congrats to all you guys that got in and those of you who didn't, keep your head up and have faith cuz when there's a will there's a way.

I didn't receive a letter from Western either yesterday. After reading that people were accepted yesterday, I rushed home early from work and didn't even receive any mail. Just junk mail. Lame.

Hopefully there will be something today. I just want to know...
 
hey guys

i just got acceptd into USC so i plan on canceling my western interview on january the 27th. I figured if i got into USC, why bother "trying" to get into western if USC is the better school in LA. Im sure someone else would love to get an interview at western. i know im being really nice. hell, it'll save me $150 bucks to not fly down there. what do u guys think?

I'm in the same situation as you, just got into USC and have an upcoming interview at Western U on the 27th of Jan. I'm not sure what to do either. Part of me knows that I wouldn't choose Western U over USC, but another part of me is a little paranoid...I keep thinking, what if it's a mistake that I got accepted to USC and they retract their decision or..what if my deposit gets lost in the mail? Heh, its silly and outrageous but I just feel like it might be better to have a backup. I don't know. Maybe someone could give me some advice too. 😳

I'm for as many people declining as possible😀 . I haven't even gotten interview requests yet. (Turned app in near the deadline) If you wanted to decline SC to I'd be okay with that as well.:laugh:
 
ahhh i just got accepted into western!!!! this feels sooooooo good, esp as a reapplicant. i was put on alternate list last year...it was totally dreadful to be hopeful throughout summer and not get in at the end...i would not wish that kind of wait on anybody. kinda lame but i'm telling you guys this news second, after my family, bc you guys are so supportive and great. i know it's kinda redundant....but don't lose hope!! no matter how many disappointing news you get, it will work out later on. it's a matter of being patient. whew! i am so glad plans for my future are finally in place. 😀

congrats to fellow western pharmies!! for the rest...be patient!

No, I'm being put on hold until 2/15. The thing is I interviewed last year. This year I'm not getting an interview? I interned at Pfizer for the summer and thought it would have made me more qualified.

You still have a chance for the Feb and March interviews.

wow, my western faculty interviewer just called me to say congrats on getting accepted. i feel so welcomed there. western rocks!😀
 
How is the area by the way? I heard from my friend that Pomona is ghetto.
 
That's really nice of Western to call you luvJRT. How very welcoming!

Sego, from what I have heard, Pomona isn't the safest area. However, it's really cute. There's shops and eateries nearby. Drive 10-30 minutes and you can get to three malls- Ontario Mills, Montclair and now Victoria Gardens. yay shopping! 😀
