Current GPA: 4.0 science and non science
DAT: 19/19/18 with no subsection below 17 (one 17 in RC LOL).
Not applying till next year.
also all of my prereqs are done at CC but I am currently at a 4 year uni and still am doing well. I will also be taking tons of upper level science classes.

thanks.

Be sure to keep up that GPA at the university.

Quick question. When I signed up for the DAT, I checked on all the schools in the US to receive my scores LOL. Anyways, if I am applying next year, would I still need to resend these scores?

thanks.

Nope. Once you start your application, it will all happen for you behind the scenes. That's how it should work anyway. A couple of people reported issues, but just watch for it. AADSAS won't show the scores as received until a few weeks into the cycle.

Oh so when I start my app next year, it will show which schools have gotten my scores, etc...?

thanks jeff.

No. AADSAS will just receive your scores from the ADA. You won't see anything besides the date you took the test and the date AADSAS received your scores. You will not see the actual scores. AADSAS passes those scores on to the schools you will apply to. They're like a middle man packaging up and verifying your whole application for delivery.

So how do I know if the schools have received my scores or not? sorry man but I am clueless. so by next year when I begin my app, AADSAS and all the dental schools I checked to receive my scores should have my scores from ADA then correct?

Ok the way it works is...you take DAT....on your DAT application specify schools you want to receive your scores......you can select all us schools if you want ...if you are not sure which school you will apply to....(the way you did).....then when its time submit AADSAS application ...AADSAS will receive your score from ADA....and send it to schools you chose on your AADSAS school designation.....you don't need to worry about sending it to schools at this point but if you doubt AADSAS...or ADA.....contact your schools after AADSAS mailing date to verify if they received it.

Ok so I am good as far as sending in scores to schools when I begin my app next year?

You'll want to make sure the schools you apply for all accept prereqs taken at a CC. Some limit how many credits can be taken at a CC, and some don't accept it at all. So be careful when you apply. It'd suck to pay for an app and not have a shot at getting in because of that.

Think of it like this: when you checked off all those schools when you signed up for the DAT, you were giving the ADA permission to share your scores with those schools. I don't know if the schools ever directly receive scores or if they would even look at them if they did. They see them with your application. That's The only time they would want to see them. It's just part of the application process and that whole process goes through AADSAS. When you start your application, you'll include your DENTPIN and birth date. When AADSAS imports scores from the ADA (starting a few weeks after the cycle opens and every week thereafter), your scores will match up to your application according to your DENTPIN and birth date. You won't see the scores, but if you see a Date Received, you know AADSAS has them and will be including them with your application when they send it to your schools. Even though you've selected all the schools when you registered for the DAT, what really matters now are the ones you indicate you are applying to on your AADSAS application.

I think your scores are fine (unless you're shooting for a school with much higher averages). It's nice to have the DAT behind you. Don't worry about doing anything else with scores now. It's all behins the scenes now. Keep up your grades, start tinkering with your statement, start lining up letter writers if you can. You'll be more than good to go if you have everything all ready to go in June. AND...start entertaining the idea of the military route.

since I am applying next year, when should I start asking for letter of rec from my teachers? Also, I don't have much of EC and plan on shadowing a dentist pretty soon. The reason I am taking the DAT this year is because I want to have one less headache next year lol.

And yeah, I don't care what school I get into (I am applying for HPSP so as long as the school is accredited, I am good) so hopefully I don't have to retake.

Letters turn into nightmares for some
applicants. I'm only familiar with the non-committee letter route since my school doesn't do those. You can research the Interfolio thing on here too. With that, you could start collecting letters right now if you wanted to. The idea is that you don't wait until April or May to ask for letters and then have to hunt down professors when they disappear for summer and you start panicking. And do not let your PS hold up your application. Start early so you're not one of the few who sit on their completed application because they still aren't done with it.

As for ECs, get to a dentist's office ASAP. Maybe you come from a family of dentists or are 100% sure on your decision, but put in some hours to really make sure. Not just because it's required, this is just a huge commitment to make.

Thanks very much jeff. I will start working on them.

Is there like a chatroom in here where I can speak one on one about application process? LOL

Start your letters now. Seriously. I thought I was good to go but a professor never got back to me and I ended up having to scramble for a letter.

Does any of you have IM, yahoo messenger or something like that? lol.

I am clueless about this process.

Start collecting NOW. I got about three weeks behind because some professor will lose contact with, to some, something could happen preventing them from writing. If your school has committee system I would collect and store with the advisor who would be writing comittee letter.

When you say "committee system" does that mean all the letters will be sent to them and then they will send those letters to the dental schools? I think my school has that. I am gonna start talking to them when school starts then. Also I think I can only get like 1 letter from my 4 year uni professor because I have only spent 1 semester here at the university. My one other letter will be from my chem professor at a CC. Do you think it matters if the letter I get is from a CC prof? he got a phd i think LOL.

thanks.

Warmbroom, do you know which schools don't accept CC credit at all? and which schools weight it heavily? I took all my Pre-Reqs at CC, and all upper lever science classes are Chemistry, and only two biology. I don't want to waste $$ on the schools that won't consider my CC credits. 🙁

I believe
howard(not sure why since this school is crap)
Temple
Boston
Tufts(although I believe if you take the same number of credits in upper level science classes as the prereqs you will be fine)

so yeah only 4 schools lmao.

Thanks for the big tip. Should I apply to Tufts? I took Biology at CC, but 4-year university is MCB and BioChem. Also, NO English taken at university. Thanks
