Hello, I just wanted to get an idea as to what my chances were for getting into a medical school in Michigan (in-state).

cGPA: 3.45
sGPA: 3.50

MCAT: 28 (Verbal: 6 Bio: 12 P.S.: 10)

1000+ hours research
800+ hours volunteering
Tons of great extracurriculars

Do you have the MSAR? If not you should get it and figure out where your stats fit with your IS schools. You should also find some OOS private schools and certainly look at DO schools to add to your list!

You certainly should apply to Central Michigan, Michigan State, Wayne State, Oakland Beaumont and Western Michigan. Consider OOS private schools such as:
Quinnipiac
Albany
New York Medical
Drexel
Temple
Jefferson
Penn State
Rosalind Franklin
Creighton
California Northstate
any private schools that open in 2017 (Roseman, Henricopolis, etc.)
You should apply to at least 10 DO schools since your chances for a MD acceptance are less than 1/3 according to the GPA-MCAT grid (unless you are URM).

Retaking the MCAT to 510+ with a 124+ in CARs would really help. You live in a good state, 3.5/31 might be enough. But as of now, that 6 in verbal combined with the <avg GPA is likely just too much to overcome.

Thanks for the replies guys but I just wanted to see if the feedback was accurate in terms of this cycle's results for me. I also took the SDN acceptor predictor and scored a 40 which couldn't be more wrong. I actually got accepted to 3 medical schools in state: Oakland, Wayne, and michigan state, and two out of state: Rosiland and new york medical. Thanks to those of you that supported me regardless and to Grapesofwrath, I dont think your advice was very solid.

1. Great, congrats. Why did you even bother posting this then....
2. You realize the acceptance predictor is an April Fools joke right....

Even the best advice, though requested, can be ungratefully received.

People come here for realistic advice, not hugs and kisses.

The VR score I consider lethal, but the MI schools are your best bet, as well as any DO school. Start with MSUCOM, CCOM and MUCOM (beggars can't be choosy).
