Hi, im a DO student who had to repeat a year during oms1 due to a failure in a course. How tough is it going to be for me to match into an IM that will allow me to go into cards, gi, heme-onc, pccm etc? Will my repeat year affect my chances of getting into those fellowships or will it only be based on how well i do in IM residency? Any advice or success stories would be great.

Why did you fail ? Personal reasons or studying issues? I would take both step and complex and try not to have any more red flags moving forward. If you can explain failure, IM won't be an issue. For fellowship, look into programs where residents match into fellowships. Cross that bridge later. Right now focus on passing classes and boards.

it was mostly due to studying issues, i have fixed the problem and have passed all of my classes since and im about to end my first year.
