What are some of the best questions to ask an interviewer???

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
-what brought you to x school? what's kept you here?
-what's your specialty/field and how did you choose it?
-what opportunities are there for a student to do off-site clinical rotations?
-are there opportunities within your curriculum to do meaningful research?
-is there anything you don't like about x school? (much easier to ask this question to a student interviewer)
-do the attendings/residents enjoy teaching? (student interviewer)
-are the faculty approachable? (student interviewer)
-collegial or competitive atmosphere? (student interviewer)
-any elective courses during 1st/2nd year? (either humanities type courses, clinical electives, shadowing, etc)
-in places like philly/new orleans: do you feel safe walking around the campus/hospital at night?

I generally found people to give honest answers to these questions, even the ones that might put their school in a bad light... hope these help.

rather then asking what they don't like. Ask what they would like to change or improve about X school if given the resources. It's a little nicer way of asking the same question.

and really, IS anyone going to tell you "oh, yeah, we're super competitive gunners here". I really doubt people would say anything negative. So, there probably has to be other ways of indirectly finding it out.

One of the schools I'm interviewing at requires an interview with a local physician. This doctor is not affiliated with the university, so he probably won't know much about the curriculum/clinical opportunities/medical school. What kinds of questions would you ask this interviewer?

Given your experience, how would you compare the clinical skills that students here have in rotations or residency as compared to other programs you may be familiar with?
