So, I applied to 11 schools. Columbia, UNC, VCU, Tufts, Louisville, LECOM, USC, UMD, UF, Nova, and NYU (I didn't apply to Louisville, Tufts, and LECOM until 12/13).

Of the 11, I've gotten interviews from UNC, VCU, Tufts, LECOM, USC, UMD, and NYU. I denied my LECOM one because I couldn't afford the flight down there, but I've attended all of the others besides Tufts which is on Tuesday. So far I have heard nothing from VCU and UMD. I've been waitlisted at USC and NYU. I was rejected from UF and Nova immediately, I was literally just rejected from UNC, and I've yet to hear anything from Columbia and Louisville.

My stats are very average. I have an overall GPA of 3.62 and a science GPA of 3.4. DAT - Bio: 18, Chem: 20, Ochem: 19, TS: 19, RC: 16 (it was awful), RC: 22, PAT: 22, AA: 19.

What I'm getting at is what would one think my odds are of getting in this cycle? I know VCU sends out a round tomorrow and UMD said anywhere between the day after my interview in January up until July. I guess I've kind of just been bummed out due to the fact that all of my friends have gotten in this cycle with very similar stats, but I've yet to hear any good news. Also, I interview very well. I've not left one interview yet feeling anything bad about it. I just wanted to get someone else's point of view, because from my perspective things don't seem to be going well.

Thank you!

Nobody can tell you what the odds are. You should call USC and NYU to show interest. Hope for the best afterwards.

But here's my 0.02. I think your RC might be putting you on the waitlist. Either that or you are not interviewing as well as you think you are. Have you done a practice interview and receive feedbacks?

Although what's done is done, I would not have turned down any interviews if I didn't receive any acceptances. Also would've applied to more schools.

I already called both of them and all they said to do was send an updated transcript with my fall grades, which I did.

Also, I'm fairly confident in my interviews. I'm not trying to be cocky or anything, but I've been told over and over that I interview very well. And my school has a committee that requires a mock interview before they'll write your letter of recommendation, and I took all the feedback from that and have used it towards my actual interviews.

And about LECOM, I physically couldn't afford it. My school is no where near a large airport and the flights to get down there were $1,000 and up. And I know no one actually knows what the odds are, but I just feel like I'm a decent applicant and don't understand what's going wrong.

I know the waiting game sucks, but you're still in it! I'd say its better to not have heard back from some schools and be waitlisted, than be straight up rejected. So don't lose hope! I'd like to assume that you'll get in to dental school sometime during this cycle (given you've gotten so many interviews), it's all a matter of when. And yes your RC is low, but the schools know that, and despite that they wanted to interview you. I don't think your RC is holding you down that much. Rather, I think the schools have an influx of great applicants (including yourself) and it's hard for them to rank who they want more. Best of luck, and be happy that you're still in the running!! 🙂
