If you can get Science Diet kitten food at a discount, DO IT! :laugh: What were you reading that said kitten food wasn't necessary? 😕

Also, I'm assuming the kitten you are getting is already weaned and on solid food?

That's not true...Kittens and puppies have higher energy and protein requirements, so feed them the appropriate life stage food. Any diet that says "all life stages" is formulated for a kitten or puppy.

Oh I agree! Of course a young animal that's still growing has different needs than an adult animal. But that's what people say. Must be true, right? 😉
 
Trying to get things put together to head home tomorrow. Christmas presents are wrapped to take home. Kuromi's (my cat) stuff is put together, though I'll still need to empty and scrub the litter box in the morning. And I have... er, nothing of my own packed. 😳

I have a vet student friend who switched her 10 month old puppy to an all life stages because the puppy food was causing major GI upset. Then her vet told her he should still be on puppy food. I'm a firm believer in using what works for your animal. The switch pretty much cleared everything up (no more diarrhea, which is always nice). It just is weird when people who are educated in animal medical care focus more on the "name" of the food, than how the animal reacts to it. (Not meaning to say anything bad about the vet, well they also didn't want to test a 7 month old puppy for HW when it was a shelter dog, but that's beside the point).

Not gonna comment on the diet portion of this, but testing at 7 months for HW can be hit or miss. It takes 6 months for an infection to get to the stage where you'd be positive for HW on a snap test. 6 months. So that means you would be testing to see if the puppy was infected in its first 4 weeks of life. Much better to test puppies at 9-10 months for their first test (and have them on hw prevention as early as possible.

Agreed. She wanted him tested (we're in the part of the country where every dog has HW) and was willing to pay for it. It was weird for them to turn down the money. He did get tested at a year and was HW free which is always good.

i guess the question is was she willing to pay again in 6 months if he was negative? Otherwise, no reason to spend the money at 7 months. Better to wait until 10 months

All life stages is still formulated for puppies just fine. It's overweight adult dogs I tend to worry about being on it.

I'm jealous. It's been so cold the past couple of days. It didn't even reach 50 yesterday (and yes I know some of you live where it snows all the time, but I'm and AZ girl and it hardly ever freezes)
 
Hanging out with two kittens right now. They're friends and get along really well. I'm trying to decide which one to take. I'd like to take two but I'm not sure what my mom would think of that. I'm happy she's letting me get one already. But I don't really want to separate them because they're really cute together.

Just tell her that they do better together and they're less likely to bite and scratch you when they play because they'll be biting and scratching each other. :laugh:

Or furniture. 😉 They will keep each other entertained when you are away at work/school. I'm a firm believer in having more than 1 cat.👍:laugh:

Made them for a tacky sweater and dirty santa party with some friends from vet school... First time I've done something fun with them all semester! Super excited, especially because the bf agreed to join me! 😀
