Hey, while we all sit and don't have much to talk about other than that we want to go to dental school, I just thought I would ask the question, "What class during your undergraduate did you most struggle with?? Did many of you struggle your way through Organic Chemistry like I did?? I got a C my first semester, retook it and got a C+, then got a C in my second semester. Just be honest...it will make everyone feel better!!

Im not a huge fan of biochem.

Biochem 2 + Physical Chemsitry (PCHEM) 2 are the two WOREST :scared: classes I ever took. I had a C- in both, but I am glad I passed.

Organic Chemistry!!

I received a C- the first time and a B+ the second time. I am sure this is going to be a problem when I apply! 🙁

Physical chem (thermo)
calculus

Anything Math. I am extremely bored with the subject.

I am taking english and it is killing me like hell....

Molecular bio...goodness that class sucked.

Foreign languages (both German and Russian). I had to work incredibly hard for my grades.

Texas government...
worthless Junk but still the hardest..😎

p chem and o chem werent bad bad but calc with biological applications whoo hated those those two classes

I would say Physics, even though my final mark did not indicate it (Definitely the most stressful way to earn an A).

BioChem sucks right now...just had the first 4 classes, and exam #1 is in about 4 hours...too much to memorize. 👎

Maybe I shouldn't have taken this class...I already graduated. Haha. 😀

So we're talking any class, not just dental pre-reqs? I would have to say my honors-only calc-based physics I. Imagine a class with only 15 or so other people besides yourself, all of whom are in the honors college (and therefore ready to devour your innards). Ok, now imagine that you totally despise physics and you wish it would die. Recipe for disaster? I think a C qualifies as such.

Calc just because I had no interest in it whatsoever and its fairly hard...wouldnt have been if I studied at all, but either way. Most classes are either interesting and hard, or boring and easy so it kinda balances it out. The boring and hard ones are the ones that get ya.

Depends on the teacher a lot too...Gen Chem 1, I hated because my teacher barely spoke english and i was a dumb freshman, Gen Chem 2 I had a good teacher and I found it a lot easier and more enjoyable.

Since we're on the topic of how much bio chem sucks. I have not taken it, but most dental schools suggest (if not require) that applicants take the class. I don't want to take it in undergrad, but would it be helpful? Thoughts?

so i thought orgo I and II was a joke but have the hardest time with physics

I hated Cal. I ended up with a B-, but I had a tutor and I don't remember anything at all. I would say Physics II too because my professor was hell. He never did problems during class because he just explained theory.. Guess what? The tests were just problems and I had no clue how to do them. Thanks god almost everyone was doing bad because with the bell curve I ended up with an A-. I had to study my ass off for that 😴

Vertebrate Morphology...

It wasn't difficult conceptually but the amount of information they expected me to retain was unbelievable. Memorizing every cat muscle insertion, origin & function got old after a while. 😛

I'll definitely agree with anyone that said ORGO! Any chemistry is really not good for me... but orgo is the worst. Went to a group tutor for both orgos.... and I still ended up with a C in Orgo 1, D in Orgo 2 (6 week summer classes, BAD IDEA), C in Orgo 2 the second time. THANK GOD UF Dental didn't ask me about those grades, haha

Ditto. love organic. physics makes me want to cry....although I rejoice because it is over!

physics II... my teacher didn't speak good english....went too slow...by the time all other classes had their 3rd exam we hadn't taken our second exam...😡 he made our final 50% of our grade 😱 I'm ever so thankful I pulled a B in that class. 😀

Organic Chemistry.. with Biochemistry as a close second.

i actually loved biochem, haha. but i hated all the useless history classes because i cant really write to save my life, and of course those were the essay based classes

I had a lot of trouble with "Shakespearean literature 101."
Lots of overanalyzation of Shakespeare's intentions in writing his characters in certain ways. Gives me headaches just thinking about "twinships" in Shakespearean plays. Yikes!

Im a postbac student, and in another life (my undergrad, several years ago) I took Cell & Molec. Bio.. Ended up with a D+... even back then when my standards were lower, that was not good enough so i retook it.. Got an F...

After straight A's in my postbac im am now taking Cell & molec. So far im running a borderline A+. Still, I'm traumatized by this class..

Haha...I have had a few...Comparative Religions (in summer...5 hour lectures 3 times a week). Thank God it was in the summer, I wouldn't have lasted a whole semester! I took in my kaplan DAT book during that class, I figured I might as well get something done. Then to write a 20 page paper for 100% of the grade was really fun!

Calc I was another class...I don't remember a dang thing and barely got a C.

I would be interested to see how people scored on the DAT in the subjects that they struggled with in class. I am halfway through Ochem I and all of the sudden I don't understand it! I am worried....tutor time!

Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy, Animal Physiology, and Immunology...all in one semester!!! My brain has never hurt so much!

Advanced cell and molecular biology!!! It was the worst class possible. I got my only B of college in it. It didn't help my techer is a research phenom who has like 7 p.h.d's...I still have nightmares

both semesters of orgo lab in undergrad. somewhere i heard that our prof was the second hardest orgo lab prof in the nation (how that was determined, i have no idea)...evidently some big name dude who does leukemia research and has been nominated for a nobel prize. the speed at which he spewed forth orgo could rival the speed of light (or so it seemed at the time)...there were literally at least 20 voice recorders at the front of the room during every lab lecture. he had a convoluted ranking/grading system that to this day i don't understand. his orgo lab finals had averages consistently hovering around 30%. i've heard of med students who took his class, finished all their med school classes, and still deemed his the most difficult that they had ever taken, by far. needless to say, it was a traumatizing experience...🙁

straight A's in ochem, struggled the most with physics. tested poorly in cell physiology, but the prof admittedly tested hard.

probably my worst class ever was Personal Financial Planning that i took when i was like 19 and didn't care much about buying a house or stocks or mutual funds and the like.

Biochem and O-Chem are cake walks compared to P-Chem.. But I know people who think P-Chem is much easier then O-chem. Different strokes for different fokes. I am however glad I took a year of Biochem cause I will be a little more prepared next year..........

Biomedical Ethics, not because it's hard, but because I have to listen to the most ridiculous and unsupported arguments day-in, day-out. It makes me wish my head would explode...

Actually, it's not too unlike SDN...

how was it your only B if your GPA was a 3.5?

jb!

pchem was such a pain.thankfully i had a genius ex-boyfriend who helped me out bigtime with my pchem stuff👍

immunology so far has been the worst.

really? i 😍 immuno...then again,most people on this thread said they hated biochem,and i loved that too..i guess im a weirdo🙁

i like immunology most of the time. it's pretty interesting, but my professors make it really hard to get above a 75 on the exams and that makes the class a real bummer.

Talk about the worst.. . Biophysical chemistry, a graduate class I took in undergrad. I've never had a class where I completely had no idea what was going on. I read a paragraph or even a sentence and it seems all greek. . triple quadruple integration, etc, etc

Definitely much much much worse than P Chem. . even much much worse than P Chem 2 (quantum mechanics)

I didn't like Orgo, but I absolutely HATE evolution. Not that it is really difficult, just so stupid. It's hard to get into something that you do not believe in and have absolutely NO interest in.
