I don't want to take it late but then I want to be prepared. How did you decide?

too many dates. lol

As long as you're prepared, sooner is always better. Find a date where you can dedicate studying for three months. If its an April-June, IMHO I suggest you take a lighter course load than usual. I think June or earlier is best, that way worst case scenario you can re-take in August and still be on schedule with applications.

Most pre-med advisors would advise you to take the MCAT in spring. That way, you will be way ahead than the rest when the application cycle begins.

Personally, I think the last administration in June is the best because you get your score back before Aug when schools really start looking at the next cycle and you also have several months to prepare for a retake before schools starts back!!

so if i want to take it in march, when should i register and still get a spot near my area (rather than going far away) ?

Did they add March test dates now?? I thought it was only in April.

Either way, as soon as your test date opens up. Check the AAMC's MCAT website and look for the 2010 calendar. It will list when registration opens up. If you live in a large metropolitan area or in a very small place with one test center in the region they fill up very quickly so I would suggest doing it on the day it opens up. In NYC all the test centers filled up within days of opening registration, and where I went to undergrad since it was the only center for hours until the next one it filled up on the first day.
