What exactly is a student marshal? Should I graduate then?

Hey guys, hypothetical question here.

Let's say you still needed an extra semester to finish up some dental school requirements. However, you received an invitation to serve as a student marshall in the upcoming graduation ceremony. If you were to accept the honor:
1. You would have to graduate that semester.
2. You would then have to apply as a post-bacc to complete your required courses (which costs an additional $2000 from undergrad tuition).

Assuming you received an invite to be a student marshall, would you consider graduating early?

Don't think we have that in Canada, but sounds pretty dope. Congrats my man

LOLOL sorry, poorly worded question. I guess I meant to ask on what you'd do in my situation. Graduate with some sort of honors and pay an extra $2Kish for tuition as a postbac? Or go with the economical route?

If you are getting marshalled then you are most likely graduating with suma cum laude, I think that is quite enough honors IMO. Dental schools could care less about honors especially if you are getting marshalled.
If you have 2k lying around go ahead and do what you would like to do. If it was me, I would take A&P 2 and then graduate (I couldn't afford out of pocket back when I was undergrad)

Pretty much in line with what I was thinking as well. I'll postpone my grad then and save the extra money for the money hole that is dental school.

Reach out to whoever selected you and ask for an exception to not graduate but still serve?

How about asking for your merit to be postponed to whenever your graduation is?

Yeah, either ask for an exception (either postpone being a student marshall to when you actually graduate, or still serve ask a marshall without graduating) or just don't do it at all. No sense in paying extra money for what is a relatively insignificant honor in the grand scheme of things

Thanks for the advice you guys. I already asked a while ago and they said I would have to graduate to qualify, so I turned down the offer. Not a big deal, though. An acceptance on Dec.1st would be much, much better!
