Pearls and pitfalls? What happens to the contract if one doesn't fulfill 2cs/pathways on time?

Pearl is that you have a spot, which you likely wouldn't otherwise get (if you're going down this pathway).

Pitfall is that a program that is going down this pathway is probably not going to be the most pleasant place to work and unlikely to get you in position for a competitive fellowship if that is your goal.

As for your 2nd question, contracts are contracts. You have to fulfill your end just as the program has to fulfill theirs. If you don't fulfill you end, your contract can be terminated.

Thank you. This prematch was my very first interview and I have other interviews one for which I believe I have a good chance to be ranked high.

If I accept the contract can I still go on with other interviews? Would that be a violation?

If you accept the pre-match, you are no longer eligible for the match. You must be uncommitted to participate in the match. So you need to choose whether to take the "sure thing" pre-match, or continue with the match and "take your chances" at a better spot.

Technically you could still interview, but since you can't participate in the match it's a waste of time.

Before you ask, no you can't just "resign your spot" if you match. It's a match violation and you're likely to lose everything.

If you are a competitive applicant I would not do the pre match cause you could and probably would match into a better spot. Like others have said though, having the sure thing is nice sometimes. Just gotta know your competitiveness and your risk tolerance.

Agree. Unless you are dead set on that program and feel that any potential red flags on your app will make it harder to match in the regular match then I would be wary of the prematch.
