What is everyone's backup plan?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Continue my current career in a biomedical engineering lab and direct it more towards research instead of day to day production and most likely eventually apply for phd in this lab.

having a back up plan leaves room for failure....so im goin to work very hard and get in no matter what...but thats just me 😳

As I've said before, I will use my Zoology degree to start up a petting zoo. JavadiCavity has already agreed to run the concessions stand.

Become a "street pharmacist"

Good luck convincing the admissions committee of that if you get that question in the interview. Personally i believe it shows lack of planning.

Agree with Doc Taco. Whether or not you get into dental school is completely out of your hands, and making guarantees like that doesn't reflect very favorably on you as an applicant.

English/Spanish teacher. Then move into administration, ie principal-->Super int.

I don't see it as my option. Will work hard to get in no matter what it takes...

Well I always tell myself that I am going to get in no matter what, and making a backup plan is thinking negatively. But this is foolishness. Hundreds of people dont get into dental school after applying several years and with better stats than I. So this being a reality, its foolish not to come up with a backup plan. Its like people not having health insurance because they've been healthy in the past and think they wont get sick. +pity+

I don't feel todds is implying that there is no back up plan. I perceived the comment as, "If I don't get in this year, I will continue in to pursue courses that will make me a stronger applicant and reapply again next year." Admission committees do ask this question and they do want to hear that you are committed to your pursuit of becoming a dental professional, not that you will simply seek employment in another field.

Stay focused, determined and motivated 👍

Hey just curious. What is everyone's backup plan if dental school doesn't work out? Not to be negative at all. 😳

Not a dentist???? Hmmmm...I guess I'd just go to medical school. Just kidding. You gotta be some kinda abnormal to want a life of that.

For real I think I would look into getting a PhD in chemistry. Schools pay YOU to go to grad school in chemistry.

That's right! Because chemistry is the devil!

PA school or switch to business and be my uncles apprentice and then eventually take his position. thing is i could make more in his position then i ever could in dentistry, but who really wants to do investment banking?? it's so much work, like 70 hour work weeks and traveling all over the country.

I would become a teacher 🙂

I'd be a Real Estate agent.
Then I would tackle gambling and become a World Series of Poker champ!!!

got it all planned out huh? 😎

I'm with todds and DDS2BE. My Plan B is to make Plan A happen! If not in the 2005 entering class, then I'll work harder for a chance in 2006!
