what is Molecular Epidemiology like?

Hey,

I am looking into different possible career choices, and molecular epidemiology sounds interesting, but I honestly don't know much about it. I'm interested in Biology research and helping people....so I guess I was wondering if a mph focusing on molecular epidemiology would serve these goals? I was also wondering what the job outlook/salary is like for someone with a mph in this field?

It's basically taking the molecular/genetic/enzymatic (and so forth) samples from people and then looking at the association with disease.

Career-wise, it's pretty much research, as far as I know. But it's much preferred to have a PhD if you plan on being more autonomous. As for public health practice... I'm not sure what you'd do.
