I hear people (mostly DO) use audition and some (mostly MD) use away rotation when referring to ratation at a program outside of their home program. Audition sounds like you are trying out for a part in a play or some artsy thing. Is there a differnece between audition and rotation?

Auditions are rotations in your field of choice where you typically try to act as a “sub-intern” and it is what it sounds like: you’re auditioning for a residency spot. Most auditions are probably aways but you could audition at your home program.

Aways are rotations somewhere that isn’t your home program. Could be an audition, but doesn’t be necessary have to be.

Most auditions are away rotations, but not all away rotations are auditions. Also your away rotations that are not auditions can be in any field you want, not necessarily the field you'll be applying into. For example, I'm applying neurology and had 2 away/audition rotations in neurology, but I'm also doing an away rotation in radiology next block also.

So the away program you are rotating to/auditioning know you are applying neurology and are interested in their program. That makes sense. Thank you.

Yea, for my audition rotations, I made sure that they knew I was interested in their programs.

I see you originally planned to do ortho (at least that's how I'm interpreting the "Bone Wizard" in your signature), what made you decide on neuro? Sorry about the off topic question....

Lol no, I go to a DO school and "Bone wizard" is more of a joke about OMM and osteopathy (and also thought it went well with my username lol). I originally was planning on going IM or EM.
