Title kinda sums it up.

In General, I love: John Mayer, Jimi Henrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Slightly Stoopid, Jack Johnson, Dave Matthews, Ben Harper, Our Lady Peace. Tons more but those are a few of my favorites.

When Studying: Ben Folds (thats the only thing I can successfully study and listen to at the same time, don't really know why... might have just been the adderall).

Wayne, Jigga, and Asher Roth.

However, I've recently been bumping that Taylor Swift - picture to burn. Weird, I know.

i listen to gospel, christian rap, some secular rap an r&b, i listen to some alternative rock as well not the biggest fan in the world but i could tap my feet to it at times lol....oh and flaahless i c u changed your status to "medical student" congrats again bro!

Haha, I'm all over this question; music is my lifeblood

I went through a big trip-hop stage - Massive Attack, Tricky, Zero 7, etc. - still like it, but I like to think my taste has matured somewhat...

My absolute favorite band on earth is Portishead (British Trip-Hop/Krautrock); I also love eclectic combos of Jazz/Opera/Electric (my current faves are My Brightest Diamond and Laura Scarborough)

oh, and I'm not close to a typical premed - if any of you have heard of these bands, PM me, I always like new friends...

Well, when most people say they listen to everything, what they really mean is they listen to pop (rap, hip-hop, chick rock, etc.), classic rock, a little country, and maybe some indie music or something. I really do listen to everything. The last few things to go through my playlist were:
Bach - Toccata and Fugue
Planet Funk - The Switch
Royksopp - Remind Me (James Zabiela mix)
Lemon Jelly - Spacewalk
Miles Davis - A Kind of Blue (the album)
Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
Hank Williams - Fulsom Prison Blues

I guess that particular list is a bit electronic-heavy, but meh.

MANU CHAO!!!
'hoy me levanto sin razon...'

RnB (Jodeci, Luther Vandros, Keith Sweat, SWV, KC and JoJo)

&

Hindi (Fanaa, Anwar anything by Adnan Sami or Sonu Nigam)

&

Alternative (STP, Nirvana, Interpol)

Yale's Most Wanted? I kid I kid.

I used to listen to rap music. I still bump it, but most of it is backpacker type underground sound. I am more into Bob Dylan now and a bunch of random ballad acts. As of now, I don't really listen to music as much as I used to.

Decemberists, Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, Shins, Cranberries, a little Bob Dylan when the mood's right, Coldplay, Fiona Apple, Counting Crows, etc... standard west coast white girl fare, I think.

Rap, hip hop, and R&B is my thing. Altho the radio has become unbearable to listen too nowadays, so i mostly play my cds/ buy cds from artists who i know and respect.

i listen to pretty much everything and anything. but my faves are muse, radiohead and jason mraz. MIA - paper planes, best song of the 2000s.

Depends on my mood.

I like most of the types of music I've encountered. Usually some type of melody line is a plus for me, though. Doesn't even have to be a good melody line.

Metal, predominantly Prog, Doom, Death, and Black.

Examples: Opeth, Katatonia, My Dying Bride, Agalloch, Swallow the Sun, Gorgoroth, Belphegor, Behemoth, Emperor, Wintersun, Dream Theater...

I've never been a huge Coldplay fan but have been listening to them pretty hardcore lately. I guess they just mellow me out.

This song has also been in uber heavy rotation on my cd player.

I usually listen to classical music or soundtracks (mainly anything that doesn't have words), but lately I've been listening to Gavin DeGraw's Chariot CD a lot.

Actually, I'm listening to it right now.

Violet Hill is probably the greatest Coldplay song ever. Or at least my favorite!

I soooo didn't even see this thread, thanks for moving.

Its definitely my favorite from them right now, and I love the dancing politicians video, but I haven't much more than all of their singles. Any other good songs from them I may not have heard?

In Rainbows is pretty much the best thing ever.

John Mayer, Jason Mraz, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Gnarls Barkley, the Soundtrack to "Across the Universe," Andres Cepeda, Carla Bruni

Hm...Green Eyes is another favorite of mine that you may or may not have heard of. (Not much of a video in that link though heh)

For You is a nice slow mellow one as well.

Too many to list (my mp3 collection is nearing 35gb).

Post-rock, electronica, folk, hip hop, indie pop/rock, etc.

ie - Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Boards of Canada, Joanna Newsom, Talib Kweli, Stars.

PS - Coldplay is truly terrible. Uninspired, dull, boring music. Belongs on elevators.

If you could recommend one cd of theirs to get which would it be. I'm hearing their latest one is pretty awesome.

Haha well I've only got 18 Coldplay songs in my itunes, so you're gonna have to ask a real Coldplay fanatic for a good recommendation. I'd go with A Rush of Blood to the Head though, since I've actually listened to that one through a bunch...it gets played in my lab.

Plus, I haven't heard anything more from their latest album besides Violet Hill and Viva la vida...I'll probably go check the rest of the album out myself.

To each his own. I don't dislike too much stuff. My opinion of Coldplay was decreasing until I heard Violet Hill, which was such a badass song that I started liking them again.

It's so, so, so boring. There's nothing in the least unique about it. It's just everyday radio rock. *yawn*

Viva La Vida had potential. It starts off so well. And then... Flat. Just dies. Throws away what it could be.

I see you listen to Talib Kweli, I started listening to him when I was in junior high in 01, which is around the time I considered rap music to start its huge decline. I listened to reflection eternal for quite awhile but pretty much stopped listening to rap all together except for on the radio a couple of years ago.

Good to see another Brian Eno fan on the boards. It's funny how people idolize new Coldplay, yet don't give credit to Eno as a revolutionary producer.

My favorite band will forever be Radiohead; Kid A is the perfect album. I like Explosions in the Sky and Mogwai and some other post-rock bands, Boards of Canada, The Smiths, Pixies, Low, Modest Mouse, and some others. For those of you on last.fm, search for "smallambulances" for my charts.

You're missing out man. Rap is alive and well. 👍

Beatles, Pink Floyd.... anything else that isn't crapy!

Its alive but its suffering from dementia, thus it can only see whats in front of its face at that very moment, ie money, cars, fellatious women.

Maybe using the word "all together" was too much. Considering about 15-20% of what I listen to now is still rap or r&b. Its just a far cry from a couple of years ago when about 95% of what I listened to consisted of those two genres.

Haha, I'm playing In Rainbows right now while trying to write essays. I've started liking Radiohead relatively recently, within the last year. I just got Ok Computer, and I have Amnesiac and In Rainbows as well as some other singles...Kid A might have to be next..

I Might Be Wrong is def my favorite Radiohead song though. and Reckoner

Generalize much? Of course the singles contain that because that's what sells. Listen to the rest of the album if you want quality content.

There have been amazing albums that dropped in the last year.

Lupe!
Joe Budden
- So nice I quoted him in my PS.
NAS - Instant classic
Jay Z - The greatest ever
Rick Ross - I'm only human
Wayne has a TON of deep soulful tracks if you're willing to look beyond the superficial mixtape stuff. Tie my hands, Dontgetit, Trouble, Something you Forgot, Prostitute, Comfortable, Dr. Carter, I feel like dying...
Asher Roth - He is the future of rap, just listen to Just Listen.
Pac Division
the list goes on and on and on and on and on and on....

Turn off the tv and radio. Most pop songs lack real content, rap is no different. If you want the good stuff, look beyond the singles.

Point taken, and a very good one at that. But all in all, I've found that other genres appeal to me alot more than rap does.

let me add ensiferum to that list

To judge rap by the **** on the radio is absurd. It's like judging rock by Nickelback. That's not to say it's the only worthwhile genre (hardly), but it's still damn good.

Some classics, though, for people who've never listened to much besides the radio:

- Probably one of the most touching songs I've ever heard.

All of these are MUST LISTENS. Especially for the pundits of rap music. These songs aren't played on the tv.

Wayne
Tie My Hands
(prod. Kanye, Robin Thicke on the vocals) A definite must hear, saying don't forget about Nawlins.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujASK_2Xn0g
Something you forgot - He is talking to Nivea, who is his lost love and the current wife of R&B artist Dream.

Joe Budden
Long Way to go
- This song got me through the app process.

Star inside me -
A great confidence builder and inspirational song

Asher Roth

Just Listen - A must hear! Talking about the importance of tolerance.

Death to A Milli -
going hard at materialism
