What looks better to adcoms?

1) two semesters of being full-time 15 credits hours with hospital volunteer with research
2) two semesters of being full-time 12 credit hours with hospital volunteer with research and a part-time job at a community pharmacy

I feel the clear answer is number 2. But what if I don't have the opportunity to explain why I am taking a lower credit load?
I haven't been able to successfully clutch the part-time position at the pharmacy. How bad would it look if I didn't even get it?
Would it even matter much?

i think volunteering at a hospital is comparable to pharm experience, it all depends on how you make the connection, and its up to you if you want to mention the 12 credit thing or not, you can easily mention it when they ask you about experiences if you chose to, you'll probably WANT to mention it one way or another. i have 0 pharm experience, but i do have alot of medical assistant experience, i had no problem linking it to pharmacy, you got plenty of research and volunteering, more pharm experience is just bonus

Pharm experience is a plus. but so is leadership. Does the hospital volunteering include a leadership role? If not, I'd consider doing research plus community pharmacy.

This is another one of those questions that has no answer.

So, one less class but volunteering?

Well, there is no "right" answer, because there are so many "Ifs" with this stuff, but if you don't have any volunteer experience, I'd get some. I think I'd value volunteer experience (Particularly if it's long term) over one 3 unit class.

Rather it's one more class or community pharm tech experience.

Thanks for the answers. I'm going to get that tech position and when I do drop the hospital volunteering. 👍

The transition from 15 hours to 18~20 hours is going to be a lot smoother than the transition from 12 hours to 18~20 hours.

If you choose option #2, make sure that you do extremely well in your classes.

I have been told by several schools the last few months that they do not like when they see students dip below 15 credits a semester. They want to be able to see how you perform under a full load just like you will be in pharmacy school.

So in reality, it's probably a push. Just do the 15 credits and the job. I took back to back 18 credit semesters, did research 10 hours a week, worked 35 hours a week, and planned a wedding. It sucked, but I did it lol

I know a girl who did something similar to that during her senior year of college. I was kinda surprised that she was engaged already, but she was pretty hot, so I guess it makes sense  She's a P2 this year at a school different from mine, but I remember asking her a lot of questions about pharmacy school when I was still in college and she was a P1.

Good advice crazybob. But the deed is already done 🙂 I have taken particularly hard semesters in the past and did pretty well so hopefully they will see that
