even though schools say they look at the whole applicant, etc.. it is obvious that if you dont have a good mcat they wont even look at you. but people still piss and moan on this site about only getting a 28. I think to be considered an underdog, you should have an mcat score 22-25. 26 and above is fine for most state schools, below 22 means you are a loser and arent getting in.

thanks

alright, adcom. thanks for the input.

i think it totally depends where you are applying. If you're looking at one of the top schools, then yeah, a 28 might screw you over. Even state schools are becoming more competitive. I have friends with 26's - 29's who didn't get in anywhere. I would say 27 or lower would put you at a disadvantage.

I think it depends on the composition of the MCAT. Not all 28s are created equal. In my opinion, a 10, 9, 9 is much better than 12, 6, 10. In fact, I'd argue a 10, 9, 9 is pretty good and should get you into school somewhere--is that really an underdog?

"There's no need to fear, Underdog is here!"

👍

distribution is def. impt; i won't argue w/ that

nevertheless, imo, < 30 would be toughin' it (well, maybe not for TX peeps 😛)esp. considering the inc. in applications this yr.

Some schools use a filter to screen out applicants with MCATs below a certain number (*cough* G-town *cough*). Other schools are willing to look at the entire applicant: GPA + MCAT + ECs. But the distribution should play an important role, but sometimes I wonder whether the AdComs actually say "The applicant received a 10,9,9" as opposed to "the applicant received a 28". Obviously, I have no idea. But for peeps with low MCATS, Texas is the place to be! 😀
