Hi guys,
I have a vague idea of what schools I should apply too but I wanted other ppls opinion as well.
GPA: 3.35
sGPA:3.37
No upward Trend
Not URM
MCAT: 523 (131 CARS/131 CPB/131 PSB/130 BB)
EC:
1 first author pub at a mid impact journal
1 co-pub at a mid impact journal
1 abstract presented at conference (4th author)
150 hours in clinical volunteering
~50 hours in non-clinical volunteering
Some peer tutoring
~30 hours of doctor shadowing.

Thanks

And a couple of dream schools
All of your state schools.

All the above have 10th percentiles at or below your gpa. And accept >25% oos.

I was hoping for my MCAT to cover my GPA. Thanks for the advice!

You can add some top tiers. These schools are withing +-2 LizzyM points. I would be cautious against applying to top tiers only based on your MCAT. Is there a story behind the gpa ? Engineering graduate ? Top 20 school? Because that might mitigate. But from where I am sitting I see someone who has stamina motivation issues but is very smart .

I do attend a top 20 school, and a high gpa is hard to come by in my program. But from what I understood, MD schools do not really consider that as a valid excuse.

I have seen some anecdotal evidence and some real evidence that schools give some leeway to applicants from t20schools in difficult programs. If you have the resources I would apply broadly , maybe even 10 dream schools. Only one way to find out. And I am assuming you don't have a c in any pre reqs

None, all my pre-reqs are As and Bs. Great advice. I will apply broadly and hope for the best.

Make sure you apply to this list of schools and feel free to add the big reach schools - that MCAT is impressive! Don't fall into the trap of applying too high and getting rejected. You can always cancel interviews but you can't add schools after deadline.

Good luck!

but will any of those schools yield protect against OP because their MCAT score is well above the 90th percentiles for matriculants? also, i think OP should give WashU a try.

Very good point. Many of my friends fell into a similar trap.

@libertyyne 's school list - I would not consider OHSU, unless you're an Oregon resident or have ties to Oregon. They're quite open about only accepting students within their mission groups, which basically include being an Oregon resident, having parents as Oregon residents or if you've ever went to school/college in Oregon.

I was going just by the oos is ratio. Oddly enough 26% of matriculants were oos at ohsu. Those applicants may have had those ties. I can't tell from the raw numbers.

Not positive, but i'm sure they do have ties. You can be OOS with regards to Oregon, but if you can prove that you graduated high school/college from Oregon State, or prove your parents' residency statuses, you'll be considered for interviews. Otherwise, the cutoff for OOS is minimum GPA of 3.7 and like... 90th percentile MCAT.

I can say from experience with a low gpa highish MCAT that schools where I exceeded 90th percentile did not yield protect.n=1

Why not Rosalind Franklin too?
