What type of photo are you guys using for your secondary applications? Go with the formal head shot in suit and tie or a more casual shot?

I think they probably use the picture just for identification purposes and not as a means to judge applicants. I think any picture where you look decent should be fine.

Passport photos are best

Thanks for the help. I didn't want to be some over achiever who went out and got some professional photo. I figured any pic in which you look nice would do.

Cosco offers the fastest passport photos, not to mention the CHEAPEST!!!! 😀

Last year I just cut my head out of random photogaphs I had. Somtimes I didn't even use a straight edge. It got me interviews (but I haven't been accepted). I wouldn't do this again.

In conclusion, be professional, wear something, cut in a straight line, and divert the rest of your energy into writing your secondary essays and not picking a photograph to use.

Anyone else have $.02 they can put in.....

Yes I am using this picture. I think it shows all my best attributes

TMDSAS (which require photos) and my advisor both recommend a passport photo. Dress nice waist up, and comb your hair and youre golden.

I wasn't in professional attire for the one I sent in. I was wearing a plain long sleeve shirt (showing no cleavage...we want to be appropriate of course). I had someone take the picture w/ my digital camera, then I cropped it so it was mostly my shoulders and head and printed it out on my photoprinter into 2x3s. Since I knew I would wear my hair slightly curled for my interview, I curled my hair for the photo, as well. I think the only thing you need to worry about is looking appropriate. I had a huge smile on my face, mostly because I've never posed for a picture w/o smiling. I don't think its necessary to wear professional attire, but all in all it probably doesn't matter. Don't try to set yourself apart from other applicants by the photo you send in...most likely it can only hinder your application if you send in something completely bizarre.

I put on a suit (no tie though; I hate ties), got my digital camera, took a picture, took the memory card out, took the memory card to walmart, and printed out a sheet of those pictures (I think one sheet had like 6 pictures on it,). The pictures were passport size and on glossy paper. The total project cost me $1.23 after tax.

if you have the camera to do it and a friend, i would def do your own passport style picture. much much cheaper.

Haha, I did that last night, only I set my camera to take the picture on a timer. It turned out quite well.

What if they want you to upload it on their website with JPEG files?

Oh, just FYI. A 2x2 photo can cropped, copied and printed on a 4x6 photograph 6 times... this saves a lot of money and will actually give you the dimensions schools look for.

It's a lot better than trying to cut down a 3x2.
