What r my chances?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
what r the chances that a 2.7gpa with good ECs and decent DATs (20) get accepted. i have shadowing experience as well.

Everyone has shadowing experience and a 20 DAT is good, but not spectacular. I'd say you have a very low chance.

You should look into doing a post-bacc year to boost your gpa. While there is a small chance you'll get accepted somewhere, a 2.7 is just not high enough to catch the eye of admission officers, unless you really rock your dat (22 at the very least I would say)

need better breakdown of DAT, cGPA,sGPA...
just briefly scanning, it will be on the difficult side BUT it's still possible because there are people who had GPA similar to yours who got in (rocking the DAT though)

Unfortunately, I agree. OP, I suggest you look into a masters program. Best of luck.👍

I recommend you take a post-bacc program which is a great way to retake your sciences and such and excel in it to show that you are capable of taking graduate level classes. Your post-bacc GPA will be separate from your undergrad and I will be combined in your overall gpa, BCP, etc.

I'd recommend Post-bacc too. That is what the advisors at my dental school told me, that he would recommend that anyone with a 3.0 and below do a post-bacc. Someone I know with a 2.9 applied with a 22 DAT and didn't get into dental school until they completed a post-bacc. I'm not trying to scare you or anything :/ it's just what I've heard. If you do choose to apply, apply wisely I guess. Good luck!

Would i be able to get into anyyyy dental school?? does it make it harder that im canadian, and went to uni in canada??

you are considered an international student
why don't you apply to Canadian dental schools?
also like lot of people say, you might want to get into post-bac program to boost up your gpa for many reasons. you have a low gpa, not a impressive DAT, so if you get a high gpa in post-bac program it will show the dental schools that you are smart enough, you are improving, and your gpa will be slightly more competitive.
as an international student, you need to be more outstanding than US students to get into dental schools.

I think you either go to post-bac or apply to Canadian dental schools. It will not hurt if you still apply with those scores if you have money to do so.

Do a post bacc and get a 3.5+... 2.7 isnt cutting it these days. Hope isn't lost - it simply means you need to do a post bacc first. Good luck

Slim to none. Do a masters.good luck

No way for a Canadian dental school...
for your chances for Canadian dental schools, you need at least 3.7+
maybe you should do 2 more years of undergrad and get like 4.0 for both years and apply to UWO since they look at your best 2 years.
I'd say no chance this cycle for US dental school, don't waste your money, it's very expensive to apply to multiple schools

good luck OP

So not ANY dental school? i have pretty good ECs tho will that help? And very good reference letter from a dentist, but not good reference letter from professors tho 🙁, so i have no chance, i should take more courses or masters i guess?

if you are a minority than yes you have a chance. if not, you need about 25AA and 25TS to get an acceptance, along with a really good reason why your gpa is on the lower side. I am not trying to mean, i just dont want you to waste your money. this whole application process is nothing but a business.

the first thing they see is your basic info, GPA and DAT + cover page (first page of AADSAS application package). hard not to notice the low gpa...
i think post-bacc is the best option atp...
hope this helps

Unfortunately for you, lots of people with higher GPAs and DATs have good ECs and good letters from dentists. It's not that you have no chance, it's that you have a very slim chance. Taking a masters will put you in a much better position, where you may even be able to pick among choices from acceptances. Consult with an advisor perhaps?

Unfortunately even the schools with the most lenient minimum requirements (midwestern's) have a 2.75 cutoff for reviewing an application. I would advise you to stay in undergrad for an extra year or so and get your gpa up to as close to a 3.0 as possible, apply for a masters, and after you have at least one semester done with a high gpa apply! Even some of us with GPA's in the mid to low 3's and 20's on the DAT have had it rough. The way the system works is everyone has to pay their dues!

would i be better if i bring my gpa up to a 3.0 if i take another year of classes? OR should i do my masters? Also should i re write my dats?

I think you need to bring up everything to a 3.0 AND do a masters, but that's just me.
If you can get it to a 3.0 and score 22+ on the DAT, then the masters is unnecessary.

I think i have no chance then,

2.7GPA, 20 DAT, lot of ECs and shadowing, no good reference letters from science proffs, no research, i did some volunteering in a lab tho.Not sure what to do, not sure what masters program to do....Or to re write the DAT? I might take one more year of classes and see how it goes. Even with a full course load and an avg of 4.0, my GPA comes up to a 2.9...

You really need above a 3.0. Once you get above that then you will have much more of a chance to get in. A lot of schools will see a sub 3.0 gpa and won't look into the app too much.

You say you have really good EC's, do you mind telling us what they are?

Would i be able to get into anyyyy dental school?? does it make it harder that im canadian, and went to uni in canada??
I hate to say it, but I don't think you have a good chance with your GPA regardless of if you are international or not. Post-bacc is highly recommended even if your DAT scores are good.

There is always a chance, maybe not a good one but there is a chance. I would make sure you apply to the appropriate schools, no point in applying to the programs hardest to get into. Maybe wait to submit your application til summer courses are done so you can add that transcript and possibly increase your GPA (thats what Im doing).

Hi, just wondering what the community thinks about my chances for admission. Also, did I apply early, late, kinda early, kinda late or in between? what batch am I? Will I get interviews? will I get accepted? basically, how does it look?

Here are my stats:

3rd year completed of bachelors in Science, Behavioural Science Major
96 credits so far, 24 to go

Canadian DAT:
MDT - 18
RC - 18
Bio - 21
chem - 20
PAT - 22
TS - 20
AA - 20

GPA - 3.46
BCP - 3.51
Sci - 3.38
nsci - 3.54

Schools Applied to:
1. BU
2. LLU
3. Buffalo
4. NSU
5. NYU
6. PENN
7. Pittsburgh
8. Maryland
9. Detroit Mercy
10.Minnesota

Evaluators:
1. Biology Professor (Good!)
2. Chemistry Professor (Excellent)
3. Biochemistry Professor (nothing special, but it exists 😛)
4. General Dentist (Good!)
5. Spiritual leader (for LLU, Excellent)
P.S. I am basing the quality of my evaluations on the relationship that I have with their authors and my confidence in them. It is possible though, that they are all poor letters or that they are all excellent letters.

109 hours of dental observation (2 locations, mostly with 1)
various leadership, volunteer, travel, and sports experiences as well as a service trip
very small amount of research experience

Your gpa is below average compared to Canadian matriculants. You have a slim chance at American schools because you're uncompetitive relative to your Canadian peers. Ditto for Canadian schools.

Ok, I understand.
