What schools screen primaries?
Started by Wordead
Wayne State is one that I am sure of
The University of California schools do.
As well as Vanderbilt.
Indiana, UNC, and Nebraska do. I think Missouri does, as well.
+ Oregon, & UIC
i wish every school screened

If a school had a minimum science gpa requirement of 3.5, wouldn't you therefore be screened out and not be able to explain the reason for your low gpa?

You won't waste your money paying the secondary fee if they reject you early.

Wake Forest does too.

If they are going to screen me I'd rather they do it before I pay them 80-100 dollars than after.
wait, so even if you are re-taking your MCAT some schools will screen you out based on your first MCAT score?

someone please clarify on this
SCHOOLS should not screen out applications if we selected option to expect a second MCAT score, correct?

for the most part, but it depends on the school. i called all the schools i'm applying to that screen. their answers were generally the same.
1) a few of them said they will put you on hold till 2nd MCAT comes in.
2) another said they will wait but be forewarned they average your two most recent scores. so in other words, don't do worse.
3) one said they will look at the rest of my application. if they are interested in the rest of my application, then they will wait for the 2nd MCAT to decide. if the rest of the application has problems, then...haha
4) one person was a little reluctant about holding till my 2nd MCAT. they then asked me what my first MCAT was. I said 26R and the guy on the phone said "okay, a 26 and a GPA of at least a B to B- should get a secondary."
hope that helps!
btw, while I thought most schools take your highest MCAT, most of them said they still look at your 2 most recent ones. most put emphasis on your most recent one, even if it's worse. a few said they only care about your highest one, one said they average your highest subscores (haha so cheap), one said they average 2 most recent ones, another said they only take your most recent one, etc. soo yea.
Somewhat related question: for the schools that do screen, do you know WHEN they start doing so? Like, when should I expect my lovely rejection from UCSF? 🙂

I don't think its fair that they screen you out even before they have your second MCAT score. If this is how it is I'm basically going to get a rejection from everywhere I apply...
I guess I should call the schools I'm applying to and find out

Thank you for taking the time to post these schools. Someone should make this a sticky.

Texas school's don't. 🙁 Infact, you can fill out and turn in the secondaries on their websites before you even finish you primary.
But a few (UT Houston, UTMB, UT San Antonio) don't even require secondaries. And UT Southwestern's secondary is free. 😀
Best of luck!
