I am graduating this May with a Biology degree. I have completed all the pre-dental course work and am applying to dental schools this summer. I just have one problem--I don't know what to do with my year off! Any suggestions? I don't really want to take unnecessary science courses...

I would suggest taking more advance level Bio courses and continue with your studies Micro, Biochem I & II, Vertebrate Phys, Histology, Genetics ect... Take the classes you already haven't taken. Also I would consider working as and assistant if you have the free time.
You want to show the dental school you can handle and do well in upper level bio course.

If everything is in order work for some cash or....enjoy the year off maybe go backpacking imo

Yeah, I was thinking about traveling and working as a dental assistant if possible. How can I apply to be dental assistant?

Is your GPA good? What about your dat? If everything is a go then I would start saving up... Work and save because there will be some unexpected charges coming your way once you are dental school. You get loans but having money for a computer, moving, first rent/deposit, first grocery bill, class dues, loupes, and whatever else is always nice 🙂 Don't forget all of the interviews you will be going to...

If money is in order then enjoy yourself and your time off! Continue to do service and maybe try to get hooked up with a free dental clinic or something to get some more exposure to dentistry...
