Hi, so I am taking ochem part 2 this semester. I am planning to take the DAT this June. However I only took cell biology and was not able to add into the other two bio classes at my community college (zoology and plant). Since the only class I have now is ochem (second part), I'm taking also human anatomy and physiology (the combined course) this semester. However I did take anatomy and physiology a few years ago (I think A in 2006 and got a B,and P in 2009 and got A). But that was awhile ago that's why I think I should refresh my knowledge. Do you guys think I should take that A&P class? Am I wasting my time? I'm currently volunteering in a hospital and in a local dental office. I just don't want dental schools see that I'm taking only one class. Please help since the deadline to drop the class without a W is this Sunday. Thanks a lot!!!

Is ochem really the only class you're enrolled in this semester? If you only took cell bio, you should make sure if you have all your bio credits fulfilled for dental school prerequisites. Because i'm pretty sure most schools require biochem.

I'm not sure if i would take the anatomy and physiology classes again since you already got a good grade in them. There isn't really much anatomy in the DAT. As long as you do well on the DAT now, schools will see that you've still retained the knowledge that you learned years ago. But I could be wrong, you should definitely call the schools you plan to apply to and see what they think, whether they want an up-to-date grade.

Why are you retaking a class you got an A and B in? Just stick with ochem and get a part-time job. Keep yourself busy and either shadow at another office or work on your ECs. Why not study for the DAT right now? You could at least start with the QR and PAT to lighten the load later.

Thanks for your advice! So I guess I should not take the combined A&P again. I was just worried that taking one class might look bad to dental schools. So I'm gonna keep doing volunteer work and shadowding. Maybe finding a part time job too. But how would dental schools know that I'm keeping myself busy this semester even I am just taking one class? Am I thinking too much?

It won't look bad. I took anatomy during the spring semester of my gap year (only that one class), and worked a little on the side. Schools didn't seem to mind. Of course they asked about my gap year in the interviews, but given that you don't sit home all day, anything will work to your benefit. I surely didn't have anything spectacular to say in regards to dental related experiences. I volunteered a little, worked, and enjoyed life <I made sure to stress the last part.

When you fill out your application on the aadsas portal you will be able to list all your EC's that you've done or currently been doing, and the hours you put into them.
